Have not used product yet

I randomly picked this up in warehouse thinking could use for weekend trips to visit parents. I absolutely love the layout of the bag with the pockets and clamshell opening. BUT it says it holds up to 17" laptop. My 17" sticks out of pocket about 3 inches! I have searched and searched for another one with same pocket layout and can't find one even similar. I would use this bag all of the time it if was just big enough for my laptop.
