It did not handle the legal name change well

I have been using TurboTax for a long time and I am feeling quite comfortable. But this year, my wife's legal name was changed after she became a naturalized citizen. So I changed her name in the personal info section. However, all the subsequent interview questions still used her old name, and it makes me feel like the change was not taken properly. This needs to be corrected. Other than that, it is great to use the product.

Outdated app

I've used TurboTax for many years. Will not any more from next year. The app is so outdated. Constantly needs update. Random errors. Smart Check tells me there is an error at form 2241 but no explanation or link to where it is - something very basic this day and age. Even typing this review feels stupid - it constantly moves the cursor to the end. There is a new app every year and I can't even delete them. It's becoming just ridiculous. One big draw was to share with 5 family members and that got killed last year.

Polish additional information table access, etc

We have used TurboTax for years and find it mostly very user-friendly, however I was even more frustrated this year with the feature to add supporting details on a table "behind" the number you are entering. I would like to see this feature easier to use (it doesn't even seem to be on many of the data entry points where I have supporting details to add) and it seems quite fickle. Sometimes it opens with a click, other times something else is required. Make it available for all entries and make it accessible with a click in the data entry box, please. And the Mark as Estimated was totally unfriendly. There used to be a way to see from that screen whether the "estimated" was marked, and now it seemed you could only tell if the edit tool worked was to wait for the review. Also, the flags didn't seem as easy to use or intuitive. They used to be much easier to connect to a specific entry page and easier to pull up when you needed them. I gave up on them. Please polish these user tools to help us make the experience more easy. Oh-and for some unknown reason the program downloaded Rhode Island which I didn't want or need. And there was no easy way to delete it. I also wish there were some comparison tools to help when switching from married filing separately to married filing jointly--especially the tax history tables. I would have found it helpful for there to be a worksheet with tips on how best to convert, but we managed without one.

Do you ever get users to try this stuff out?

Easy.. wouldn't allow me to edit/update a real estate transaction. Had to go to forms to do so!? Also said I didn't need any updates when I opened the app the last time to file. But then verification failed because you said I needed an update!? After the update, all the tax due amounts were zero for about 10 minutes!? Finally, I was able to file, but then it said it couldn't print my forms!? The Easy... form for 1099s (INT/DIV/B) is an absolute mess! The form for determining which stock sales are to be excluded from a state is also an absolute disaster. I had about 50. Once you've updated one, there's no way to tell in the list whether it's been done or not. And when you return to the form, it doesn't keep your location, but returns you to the first again (and again, and again). You seem to try to make it as hard as possible! And when you go back through a section it loses all the answers you put it before!??

Turbotax was awesome.

My account purchase had been cancelled someway. I called to get help. Watson was very helpful. We ordered and purchased the software. I had already completed my taxes but not filed them. When we made the new purchase all of my information had been saved so I didn't have to rework anything. Thanks Watson for your help.

Turbo tax always comes through

i have been working with turbotax for 20 years and i have had hiccups over the years but the supporting tax experts have always been able to provide the required support to get me through the issue . This year there was a minor issue in filing my New York taxes but after some sleuthing with the tax expert we were able to solve the issue and all is good. the software is great and makes data input easy and intuitive. the interface is easy to follow and intuitive . The software includes all the necessary questions to complete the tax filing and make it as easy as possible with a guide to answer questions that may arise

BUG matching 529 withdrawals non-tuition expenses

Using TT is clear & the coverage is comprehensive. I've been using it for 10+ years so I'm very familiar with it. The low rating is for a bug in the education deduction section where the 1099-Q from a 529 plan is not properly matched against non-tuition expenses (room, board, etc.) so the 529 ends up partially taxed. I found out about the bug when I submitted my redacted (SSNs removed) tax return to Google Gemini AI, which also suggested a workaround. I confirmed in the Community forums that the bug was acknowledged in February and an update was released in March which did NOT fix the bug. Community posts also recommended the workaround that Gemini did. I will use TT again next year, but I will definitely be running its results through whatever AI I'm using then.

It feels like TurboTax slipped a little this year

I've been using Turbotax for over 10 years, and it was always easy to use. This time, I ran into several glitches, starting with the new way the software instructed me to load in my data from last year. There is a popup window that addresses this at the start, and it is a dead loop. Eventually I went back to the way we did it last year, and that worked okay. This version also decided that I must have Canadian data to input, which has never been true. I went over my entries, and I do not see anyplace where I said anything about Canada. The software was sure I had some Canadian income, and I spent more than a few minutes trying to get out of that loop. The forms about Canada are still in my final submission, but with zeros for the amounts. Eventually I got the job done, and I wish there was an easier way to review my data input on the Form 1099's (I think that was easier last year.). I will probably still use TurboTax next year, but I hope they work the bugs out before then. Thank you

Ancient program in serious need of modernization!

The state returns--at least VA and CA--produce inaccurate results. CA fails to create accurate forms although the end amount of tax seems correct for non-resident returns. VA does not handle deduction for long term care correctly. It asks for premiums for each spouse and then only uses of them. VA instructions indicate that both are deductible.

The turbo tax 2025 version is awesome!

Very good, however, the first time I used the 2025 Premier turbo tax version, it didn't lead me to the Form only part right away. I had a hard time preparing other taxes for my family and friends. It appeared the 2025 turbo tax was only limited to my taxes. I didn't purchased t the software to do only my taxes, it was for me, my family and friends.
