AMAZING TELEVISION......PATHETIC REMOTE CONTROL

This tv is unbelievable. Everything about it is perfect....with the exception of the worthless, TINY remote control. This is a $6500 Sony 98'' television. This remote is simply unacceptable. I immediately ordered a new universal Sony remote with backlit buttons and a numeric keypad and play/pause/rewind/fast forward options.

The Sony BRAVIA 5 (K-50XR50) is a vibrant, versati

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Alright, I’ve been living with the Sony BRAVIA 5 (K-50XR50) for a couple of weeks now, and I’m ready to spill the tea on this 50-inch Mini LED TV. Spoiler: it’s a solid performer, but it’s not without quirks. Let’s dive in. First off, the picture quality is legit impressive for the price. The Mini LED setup with Sony’s XR Backlight Master Drive makes colors pop and blacks feel surprisingly deep for an LCD. Watching *Dune: Part Two* on Sony Pictures Core was a treat—those desert scenes had vibrant oranges and crisp details that pulled me right in. The Cognitive Processor XR does some heavy lifting, upscaling older shows like *The Office* so they don’t look like a blurry mess. HDR is solid with Dolby Vision, but don’t expect OLED-level punch; bright highlights in movies like *Mad Max: Fury Road* can feel a bit flat compared to pricier sets like the BRAVIA 7. Gaming is where things get a bit mixed. I hooked up my PS5, and the 4K/120Hz support with Auto HDR Tone Mapping is awesome for *Spider-Man 2*—colors and contrast adjust on the fly, which is cool. But the response time isn’t the snappiest, so fast-paced games like *Call of Duty* had some noticeable blur. If you’re a casual gamer, it’s fine, but competitive players might want to look elsewhere. Sound-wise, the TV holds its own. The 20W speakers with 3D Surround Upscaling create a decent sense of space, and Dolby Atmos makes action scenes feel immersive. I paired it with a Sony soundbar for extra oomph, and the Acoustic Center Sync feature is a game-changer—dialogue feels like it’s coming right from the screen. Still, don’t expect it to rival a dedicated surround system. The Google TV interface is slick and snappy, with all the apps I need (Netflix, Disney+, you name it). The BRAVIA Connect app on my phone made setup a breeze, and AirPlay 2 is handy for streaming from my iPhone. My only gripe is the remote—it’s functional but feels a bit cheap for a TV this nice. Design-wise, the Underlay Stand looks sleek and saves space, though it wobbles a tad if you bump the table. It’s great for smaller rooms, and the tactile dots on the HDMI ARC port are a thoughtful touch for accessibility. Overall, the BRAVIA 5 is a great all-rounder for movies, shows, and casual gaming in a bright room. It’s not perfect—HDR brightness could be better, and gamers might want faster response times—but for a mid-range Mini LED, it’s tough to beat. If you’re after a reliable 50-inch TV that looks and sounds great without breaking the bank, this one’s a winner.

Crisp and vibrant

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was the easiest tv to unpack and assemble. So thin and lightweight. The tv leg/mount installation was a breeze. You literally snap it into place. It feels extremely sturdy. Connecting and logging into all the streaming services was simple. The picture quality is crisp and vibrant. The sound is very clear even without a soundbar connected. There are a lot of smart features and so many ways to customize the tv to your liking.

Good TV but only lapse is can't connect Hard Drive

It's a good TV with good technology but the only thing is that I cannot connect my external hard drive with this TV as I have seen that because of some power output this TV doesn't supports external hard disk.

Hi Vaibs67, It's great to hear that you find the Sony BRAVIA 5 to be an excellent TV with good technology, and we sincerely appreciate you taking the time to leave a 4-star review! We also want to address your concern regarding the external hard drive immediately. We apologize for any confusion, but we are happy to confirm that the BRAVIA 5 absolutely supports external hard drives for media playback! It sounds like the issue you encountered may be related to the drive's formatting or its power draw exceeding the USB port's output. For future reference, the BRAVIA 5 officially supports external hard drives that use the following specifications: Supported File Systems: FAT32, exFAT, and NTFS Maximum Drive Size: FAT32: Up to 2TB exFAT and NTFS: Up to 32TB If your current external hard drive is formatted outside of these systems or exceeds the size limits, that would explain the connection issue. For a full breakdown of compatible hard drive requirements and additional troubleshooting steps, you can visit: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/articles/00148248 We hope this clarifies the situation and helps you get your hard drive connected so you can enjoy all your media! Thanks for choosing Sony! Regards, Dominick

Well, if only it worked

Took an hour or so to have it set up on TV stand. Plugged it in and it powered up. Only problem was the remote and the TV didn't recognize each other so all I had was a $1000 nothing in the room. Called the retailer PC Ricardsxand was transferred four times before getting to speak with someone. No service available today or tomorrow. I asked him to overnight a new remote and he said he'd get back to me. Four hours later I'm still waiting. My suggestion, don't purchase from PC Richard's.

Please don't waste your money.

I bought this TV yesterday at Costco 85 inch. We chose it because we thought Sony was a good brand. We didn't want a cheap TV. It had great color in the store. after installing it on the wall, which was not easy we are severely disappointed in the pitcher quality as the demo mode is 80 times better than any other thing that you're watching, including high definition, 4K videos on prime at this point, I wished I would've bought a cheap TV at least then I wouldn't be $2300 disappointed. we are using high definition cables we have gone through all of the different views adjusted the settings. It's extremely grainy and my Vizio TV in the back bedroom that we paid a couple hundred dollars for has 10 times of the better picture. this is the most disappointed I've ever been in any product I've ever bought.

Hi Shari26, Thank you for sharing your experience! We understand how disappointing it is to invest in a premium display and not see the clarity you expect, especially after the effort of wall-mounting it. We want to ensure you are getting the stunning, high-clarity picture that our BRAVIA displays are known for. Because an 85-inch screen provides such an immersive and large-scale image, the quality of the incoming signal is the most important factor. When standard definition content is scaled up to this size, pixels can become more visible. To help ensure you are getting the best possible picture, we recommend the following steps: 1. Source Resolution: Please verify that the content you are viewing is specifically labeled as 4K or UHD. On a screen of this magnitude, true 4K content will look significantly sharper and more detailed than standard high definition. 2. Input Testing: We suggest testing various sources, such as a 4K Blu-ray player, a 4K cable box, or different streaming apps, to see how the processor handles different high-quality signals. 3. Connection Strength: Streaming 4K video requires a high-speed, consistent internet connection. To maintain the highest resolution without drops in quality, we recommend keeping the TV within 25 feet of your router or using a wired Ethernet connection for maximum stability. If you have explored these steps and would like further assistance, our technical support team is available to perform a remote diagnostic to ensure everything is performing perfectly: https://us.esupport.sony.com/support/s/support-contact?language=en_US&category=tv Thank you for considering Sony!
