Nice materials in fit perfectly

My boys lived in these shorts last summer and wear about the same size so I went to purchase more for this spring/summer. To my surprise, the same size is slightly bigger in the waist but now SHORTER? Why is this?
Not happy, especially because it has been so hard to find shorts that are longer than half thigh.

My son likes them. My 10 year old is a big back and he's a xxl and he says it's comfortable.
