I have not had a chance to put it to the test but the material does appear to be the waterproof kind to prevent damage to the mattress underneath. At the same time it is thin enough to not be uncomfortable for my daughter.

I can definitely tell an improvement in comfort for him and when I lay him down In his bed it’s not as noisy because of the padding. It also protects his mattress and can easily be washed if he has an accident on his bed.

I’ve had many protectors and they let liquid leak right through. This is thick and has the barrier that protects like it should. It’s also stretchy enough to get on the mattress but not too stretchy that it’ll slip off. I’m super impressed!

The elastic is pretty tight - not so much so that it is hard to put on, but it definitely feels like it's not going to move once you put it on. Running my hand over it, it sounds a little loud. The sound is quieter with a fitted sheet on top, but still noticeable. My baby probably won't be able to tell the difference, but opinionated sleepers may notice.
