Great chili!

Great starter chili. Bland enough to add more flavor

Good, but too much soybean taste to me

I've been trying all the no-bean chilis Sam's sells. This chili is similar to Wolf brand in terms of texture. It's very thick and pasty. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as it sticks to your ribs and can be doctored any way you like. The taste is mild-medium in terms of spice. It's not too hot for those that don't like a lot of spice. It does have larger (still very small) chunks of beef than Wolf, but that isn't saying much. The Chef-mate doesn't contain pork like Wolf and Hormel. Only Chef-mate and Stagg are beef and pork free. It has less fat than Stagg chili so it's probably a little healthier from that standpoint. Unfortunately, there's a pronounced textured vegetable protein (soybean) flavor and texture (chewy) that takes away from the beef. You can tell it's not all beef. I think most people will be fine with the flavor overall, but it won't be a repeat purchase for me.
