Best in price

Obviously when looking for a powered home theater system you need to understand what it is you are looking for and what you are not. With that being said, A good powered 5.1 will run you around $170 give or take, though some vendors won't tell you what the individual wattage is to each speaker so be aware. More power is clarity not how loud can I get this thing up to...I wanted a good clarity 5.1 though I already have a bluray player on my computer I can attach to it. But this was a "pre-black friday" deal which came across for $139! Now I've been thru this before around 5 years back and had a Sony variant of this system and was very pleased. So knowing "what" you're looking for understand this Samsung is a much older model which is going away soon and does not include any internet attachment nor "special effects" settings (ala.reverb or ambience) like the comparable Sony's do. But at this price I dove in, and I view it as getting a blu-ray player for free. Now, 1000 watts will give you the clarity and power you'll enjoy. Granted the bass speaker is not as pronounced or punchy as some may want but is good enough for the job. The player will output 1080p not the newer 4k. Going into this purchase I knew I would replace the center channel of this system with an aftermarket better center channel speaker, only because this is the main component of this system I want to get the best sound out of. Although the included center channel is good enough overall, it does portray a "boxy" type of sound due to it's size & quality. You'll be amazed if you switch this speaker out how much better this will sound by 100% and wonder why you didn't do it sooner. $40-$80 upgraded investment will make this system sound like a $500 HT system. Don't get me wrong here, for $139 this is a kick butt system but is lack luster in features if that is what "you're" looking for. Yes it is much louder than any "VIZIO" HT system out there, period. I use this system for movies & gaming. For what I was looking for this was perfect especially at this price is an absolute steel. I definately am giving this 5 stars based on this.

Great sound. Easy to set up.

[Employee of walmartcanada] I am extremely satisfied with the product. The surround system delivers what it promises. The only thing I found odd was the dvd players' not WiFi friendly.

Great system for the price.

Easy to set up. Pretty much just plug and play. Only downfall as others have stated it that the rear speaker wires are not very long. I had to splice into them and add wire to get the length I needed and it doesn't seem to have changed the sound quality. I'd highly recommend this home theater system.

So far so good. Would had been nice if the surround was partly wireless like some of the other models.

Samsung is a good product.

This system has 1000 watts of total power. I couldn't wait to test it out. When I tested it out, I was surprised. Excellent sound. Although there was no bluetooth technology on this particular one, I liked it. Work well with my LG Smart TV. Over all I am satisfied with this Samsung product. I like Samsung products and this Blu-ray player did not let me down.

great sound short wires

I bought this to replace my old Samsung Blu-ray Home Theater that I had for years. I love it. It is easy to set up. My only complaint is the wires for the back speakers are shorter then the old ones. I ran the old one along the walls behind my furniture to hide them and insure no one tripped over them. I had to staples the new set to the ceiling to insure them not in the way but they are in sight now.

Only good for watching surround sound movies.

The Samsung HT-J4100 produces sound that lacks in quality when listening to music. The sub-woofer is acceptable, but the other speakers sound like they distort with full input volume setting the receiver volume above 14 and it goes to level 50. Admittedly, with full input volume at level 13 is enough to fill a 200 square foot room with sound loud enough to be happy on an average listening basis, but if it gets louder, the sound quality just is not there. Also, the wires that come with the speakers, that you can not change without voiding the warranty, are too short to hide behind a wall and place the speaker to the right of or behind where you will be watching TV. The equalizer has only 6 frequency settings you can adjust. Additionally, the unit will use only "the front speakers" (the two front speakers and the sub-woofer) when you try to listen to anything but a movie that has 5.1 (or higher) surround sound unless you choose the "Master Stereo" equalizer which will result in no frequency volume adjustment to the input source which takes away your ability to raise the bass above the treble or vice versa. When watching a movie, the sound system is actually much better for some reason. However, all it can do is play movies, display pictures, or play music on a disc or USB drive. It does have the ability to receive local radio broadcasts if that interests you, but considering that you got this product, it should be reasonable to assume you would want more control over the songs you listen too than what comes over the airwaves. It does not have any networking ability, so it will not be able to have any apps such as Netflix. In summary, if all you intend to do with this is watch 5.1 (or better) surround sound movies on disc or USB without caring if the wires are under your rug, then this is a good product for you. If you plan on using it primarily to listen to music, or if you want the wires completely out of site (from my experience most women do), get something else.

Save your money

Dec, 2014 I purchased a Samsung 55” 4K Curved TV and this Samsung home theater system. The whole reason I purchased the sound system was so that it would work well with the TV. At first it seemed to work seamless. Whenever I turned on the TV the sound system would also turn on. It seems after an update the sound system only turns on if I am using it for a DVD. Also, loud scenes are especially loud to contrast against quiet talking scenes that you can barely hear. During a movie I have to continually play a game of turning the volume up, and down. Rear speakers only turn on when volume is above 22 sometimes 24 or during loud scenes. The subwoofer is barely audible. The blueray player also seems to have an under powered processor. Navigating a DVD using the remote takes about 8 seconds for each action from the remote to register with the player and make a change. If you are going to go through the trouble of installing a nice home theater system my recommendation would be to keep looking for another product. You may have to spend more money but it would be worth the wait for better quality.
