Does not operate like it says. Not automatic. Have to open manually. What a disappointment. Wish I could return it but cant due to arthritis in my hands and too heavy for me to lift. I bought it online as I knew I would not be able to carry it from the store.

I love this trash can I don't touch at all the cover and when I need it tobe open longer I just press the button open and it stays open. It seems now my garbage it takes longer to get full,it's a good size. I use regular trash bags with the string but it doesn't need to be a brand name. For now I haven't bought new batteries it's been a month already.it's a good product and the price wasn't bad because I've been looking for this trash can for the longest and this is where I found it cheaper. Buy it you will like it!

I saw this at someone's house and so I read the reviews on this and several similar cans. This was by far the most reasonably priced and I watched the video on the manufacture's website before I purchased it. I took into account the issues that many others had with it and I have this to say: 1. IT DOES TAKE A LITTLE GETTING USED TO. I had to figure out the best way to set off the sensor (so that my hand did not get in the way), and the amount of time I had before the lid would close. For the most part it is perfect, and if I find I need more time I make sure to keep something in front of the sensor or just push the "open" button so it stays open as long as I want it to (like when I'm scraping all my dishes and loading the dishwasher). It does open sometimes when I don't mean to, but I have it in a high traffic area and it doesn't seem to bother me like it did other reviewers. It's quiet, and if the trash smells bad it's time to take it out... A couple of times I simply turned it off or repositioned it. (It does keep the smell of the garbage in the can nicely when it's closed) 2. MY KIDS WERE FASCINATED. My older children figured it out quickly and have no problem with it (ages 6-12); however my almost 3 year old son would set it off and then force the lid closed. I didn't want him breaking it so I just turned it off and he quickly lost interest. It hasn't been an issue since. One thing no one else mentioned was there is a tab you can use to open the lid manually if it is turned off. 3. MY DOGS DON'T DIG IN THE TRASH. This was my initial reason for purchasing this item. I have a 200+ pound English Mastiff and a Doberman and they would both dig in the trash. So far, I have had no more messes all over my kitchen floor! I don't think they can smell it as well as my last one (Sterilite brand) and they can't get their nose under the lid (it rests flush against the top). And the top sits nice and securely on the base. They don't set it off even though their food and water is less then 4 feet away from it, and I think it would probably scare them off if it did. That alone has made it worth the little effort to get used to an automatic lid. 4. FYI. The regular brand of bags all fit (I have used Glad, Kirtland, and some no name I had under the sink. They all fit fine.) If you have trouble, watch the video on the manufacture's website and see how they load the bag around the inner ring. I love not seeing the plastic bag hanging out of the can. All in all I'm happy I bought it. Happy Mother's Day to me :)

I ordered this for pickup at the store. Have used this service in the past and, once again, it worked well. The finish matches our new stainless stainless steel kitchen appliances. Visitors to our home are awed by the "coolness" factor of the self-opening top. Altogether a neat addition to our kitchen, and highly recommended. Caution: it does not come with batteries, so pick up three "C" cells at Walmart when you purchase your trash can. Not to worry, you can open it manually, so if your battery runs out (it has an expected life of 6 months), you can still use the trash can, only without the coolness auto-open feature.

It is a great garbage can!!! Nothing bad to say about it!!!! I have a 3 years old and sometimes he plays with the sensor lid.....he know to wait until the lid opens, but he can't wait until it closes by itself so not good at all !!!! ...so I don't know if he will break it or not....but for now everything is still working!!! :)
