If yours is not working, read this...

Mine suddenly quit working after about a year. Tried everything with no luck and quit trying until today when I decided to look up the reviews and I saw one review where it says the plastic cover needs to be pushed in for it to work. Although I did put the cover back on each time that I used it in the past, I evidently didn't push it in firm enough before. Now I make sure I push it back on firmly and it now works like a charm. Even the red light that tells you when the pencil is ready is working. That quit working before it gave out completely. Another thing to check to is where the cover connects to the base, brush off those little metal connectors because the dust from the pencil sharpenings causes a film I suppose. So as of right now this minute, it's working like new and just in time because I really need lots of sharpened pencils to do my income tax. So thank you to the reviewer who suggested about putting the cover on well. And I add my suggestion of cleaning off the connectors that go against the base.

Missing Warranty Information

I bought this pencil sharpener after mine died trying to sharpen pencils for school for 3 young boys. I talked with a teacher while waiting in line at Sam's a couple of years ago and she loved this sharpener. So far it works great. I wish the 13 year warranty information was included somewhere in or on the packaging. I would love to give it a higher rating but have not had it long enough since I bought it yesterday. I may review it after I get all of the pencils sharpened.

2 in 1 week

Thought that the shavings cup was broken, because it would not stayed pushed in. Must be pushed in to have power. Returned the first one and got a second one. Exact same problem. Must be a design defect. Just ordered from Sam's online the X-Acto School Pro , it has 11 reviews, all scored sharpener 5stars-Excellent. Hope I'm not disappointed.

Save your money

I had a Royal P60 and it worked wonderfully, you couldn't ask for a better sharpener especially for the cost. But, then the sharpener my wife had in her classroom went kaput so I gave her mine in a pinch to put there in its place. The next time I was at Sam's I picked-up a Royal P-60 and took it home. A few weeks later I finally got around to puting it to use and was I disappointed. If you liked pencils with the led showing only on one side of the point then this was your machine. However, when I sharpen I prefer the point to be well positioned in the center of the point with lead showing all around the point. I wrote the Royal company and they did not hesitate to have me send them (e-mail) a copy of my Sam's receipt and they immediately sent me a replacement. Unfortunately the replavcement is even worse, if that is possible. I barely stick the pencil into the opening and the motor starts and immediately stops. If you apply even the slightest pressure to the pencil the motor will not turn. I've tried to e-mail Royal again and this time I am not getting a response. I looked at Sam's to possibly buy another one but they had no sharpeners to boot. I figured they must have had all the complaints they could handle and stopped carrying them all together, but I did find them on the Sam's website. Fortunatley I did find other brands there too, so if Royal is not going to make good on their products; I'll just buy a different manufacturer's product. But as far a buying the Royal P-60, I would recommend you saving your money!!!

BEWARE!

I bought this sharpener about 6 months ago and use it with my homeschool student. It is used maybe once every two days and not at all during the summer and it went out this morning!! This has to be the worst waste of $35 I have ever squandered!!

HORRIBLE!

I bought this to use in my classroom. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does absolutely nothing when you insert the pencil. DO NOT waste your money on this. Royal engineers/product developers/testers/quality assurance folks, what were you thinking?!?!?

Extremely Poor

This has GOT to be the WORST pencil sharpener I have ever personally used. We have had much better sharpening w/ those little hand held twist .50 ones! I cannot say enough bad things about it. No power, poor sharpening, SLOOOOOW sharpening to get a poor result too. This thing isn't worth $2 much less the price I paid for it. It is going back to the store ASAP!

Not a good Choice for a Classroom

This pencil sharpener was given to me as a gift by a parent andf I thought it was going to be the one I used for a long time. About a month after I got it it started not sharpening a pencil when you put it in, then it started sharpening only one side so something is off center. Just not a good choice for using in a classroom. By the way there is a 13 year warranty from Royal on the blades and mechanics.

worst I've ever seen or used

My wife, who is a 1st grade school teacher, and I had just returned home from a wonderful day of worship and an even of dinner and a movie, when she begin to complant about having to sharpen several packs of pencils for her class. I didn't understand her concern until I witnessed her using this sharper she had purchased for SAMs several months ago. She normally keeps it in her class and used it there but decided to sharpen at home after I compainted about her staying over so late. It actually took roughly 20 minutes to sharpen 30 pencils. The motor is weak and it does a poor job on the pencil tips. I am ordering her a much better one and throwing this one in the trash. If you value your time as I do, do not purchase this sharper.

Worst Pencil Sharpener

I have had this pencil sharpener in my classroom for the last 4 months. I should have returned it before the first 30 days. It breaks the lead off in the pencil so that when the students begin to write with it the lead breaks immediately. I will not buy another like this.
