Unnecessarily Heavy

Ordered these shelves which were the right size (esp height 60") and would have been easy to assemble, however, could not find weight on Walmart/other websites. When the two sets arrived they weighed in at 194 lbs. Shopped around. Decided to buy shelves with similar specs @ a similar price made of metal more moderate in weight (41 lbs instead of 97 lbs each set).

just right

Being an honest person, I am writing his in anticipation of find this shelving to be perfect for the purpose for which we bought it...be all getting things off the floor of our garage and neatly stacked. Because we're experiencing extremely cold temps, we don't anticipate assembling these until the weather warms up. Will be happy to write a more appropriate review at a later date.

The structural design is awful!

OK, beside the fact I purchased black shelves and received gray shelves, there is IMHO a disappointing structural design flaw with these shelves. The shelf is 72 inches tall, right? So you would think the four corner posts/legs would be 72 inches tall, right? WRONG! The four corner legs are actually cut in half giving you eight leg pieces that are all 36 inches tall. That design decision makes this shelf less stable, less sturdy and a wobbly mess when trying to assemble. You either need someone to help hold it together while assembling or at least 4 arms. Six arms would be better. Put it together very close to where it will eventually be sitting. Don't put it together far away and then try to pull or push it around. You will just have to tighten all the shelves down again. Once you get some weight on it, it appears fairly stable. But the description of 4000 lb capacity (5 shelves/ 800 lbs per shelf) is absolutely ridiculous. The particle board shelves are thin and the corners and edges crumble easily. There is no way in H E double hockey sticks it will hold 800 lbs. They drooped between the saw horses when I put waterproofer on them. I Don't believe they will support the weight of a car engine. If I had known all of this I would not have purchased. I would have built my own with 2 by 4's. They would be a lot stronger.

It's okay

I bought another one from Lowes, the quality was much bettter, but it did cost twice as much. I believe it said this would hold 800 lbs. per shelve, I wouldn't trust it. For the money this one was okay, it will do what I need it to. It depends on what I would be putting on it if I would buy another. Nothing too heavey.

Too hard to put together

I found the units too hard to assemble. Specifically, the joining of the 2 pieces that make up the vertical corners of the shelving unit. It seems to me that this could have been engineered better. You are basically asked to install these directly on top of each other with the horizontal pieces that hold the shelves. if hardware had been supplied to join the 2 sections prior to installing the horizontal pieces, it would have gone together much easier. I expected to assemble both units in no more than 2 hours on one day and instead spent part of 2 days finishing the assembly. I'm not an engineer but this could have been engineered better than it is.

Looks sturdy enough.. but

Fully assembled, this looks pretty sturdy. However, note that the corner posts are actually two pieces that just sits on top of each other instead of one-piece from top to bottom. Although it's "locked in" by the braces on all 4 sides, we're still talking about a piece of L shaped metal rod that's about 3mm thick sitting on top of the other. I went ahead and build it as is (as opposed to just leaving it with the 3 shelves at the bottom but asked my wife to only put light stuff (clothes mostly) at the top. It should be ok, but I am also installing some additional hardware to anchor this against the wall (NOT included, but you're specifically warned by the product instructions... )

Edsal 48"W x 24"D x 72"H 5-Shelf Steel Shelving,

I was pleased with the price $57 plus tax, but you get what you pay for. One of four boxes torn open upon delivery. Particle board is weak, broke with less than 250 lbs, nowhere near the 800 lbs per shelf as stated in specs. Second tier and corners went together difficultly. Trying to decide whether to return or not.

Great deal; highly recommend!

I'm disabled & they are very easy to assemble and super heavy duty strong. Each shelf can hold so much of our heavy bulky tools; etc w/o shelves bowing in the middle. Bought 5 and lined our garage with them (loaded to the gills). My guy is a hoarder especially with tools. Great deal.

Heavy!

Heavy! Not in a good way. Not sure how UPS delivered them. Had to open boxes and bring in pieces at a time. Provably made 8 trips. Corners are chipped or broken off in packaging. I'm stuck wirh them though, because I can't pick up a box to put them in my car to return. You get what you pay for. Heavy! And like everyone else posted chips in boards. I have yet to get them together, I am sure this will be about as difficult.

Garbage due to double post design.

Item shipped quickly and boxes in perfect shape. Instuctions are poor but that is the usual. The design is simple but increadibly flawed. They have a double post design where after building the shelf you must attache the top half of the post to the bottom half. This is an incredibly stupid idea i guess they thought well neat you could actually have two shorter shelves if you so desired. But I ordered a shelf that is supposed to be 72 inches high. Attaching the top posts to the bottom posts is a (profane langue inducing) nightmare. I asked for a 72 inch shelf not two 36 inch shelves that i might be able to get to stack together. Solution, don't be cheap and stupid and ship me a shelf with 72in posts and I would already be done building it and not sitting here giving you one star with a half built shelf. Solution 2 fix the disign braces with longer pins for attaching top post to bottom post i'm sure that would be really difficult I know. Don't waste your money buy something better for $60 I thought I would get more than this. Extremely disappointed. Also if they want to claim 2,000lb load per shelf capacity they can't use particle board are you kidding me it'll never happen. I weigh 175lbs and i would risk trusting using a shelf on this unit as a seat.
