I recently moved to Illinois from New Mexico. We bought a newly built, age-in-place house. No room in the single-story, no-basement house seemed like a good choice for protection from tornadoes or the more common extreme straight-line winds. I researched types of storm shelters and decided that a big steel box in my garage was the best choice. In my research, I found that Swisher has the best big steel box. Look on their website to see the construction details and the certifications. Last week, while we were on vacation in Michigan, an 80-mph derecho came through town. Our house sitter and our two dogs rode it out in our Swisher shelter. I'm grateful I made the choice I did.

We are impressed with quality. Assembly was simple and no fit issues. Now we have safe location from storms.

High quality product, very easy installation, a bit of a difficult delivery (shipping company's problem), but overall a good experience. It provides a lot of peace of mind to have this shelter. Would highly recommend everyone to have one that lives in a area prone to storms.

Well engineered and manufactured. Everything fit together well. I recommend reading through the entire installation guide befor proceeding. I did a few assembly steps slightly different than instructed after I understood the entire process.Keeping the template totally stationary whilst drilling all the holes is absolutely essential! I drilled two holes in opposite corners, sank 2 concrete bolts, and placed template back with nuts before drilling remaining holes.

This shelter was a must have for us. Solid iron construction as advertised. Hopefully we never have to use it. But it definitely gives you that peace of mind.

We like having our shelter. We have always had a basement until now. We used it about 3 months after installing when a tornado ripped through our state. We were safe and felt secure knowing it was available.
