my son loves the game

Played this game for hours on end as a kid! While it does have differences, some things have remained the same… like the music. Brings back lots of great childhood memories!! Had to have this for my girls. We all love playing it together now, too!

Sure this is technically the third time the game gets released but it's a great game that I think can be as great as Tropical Freeze at times and does some things better. By default its harder than Tropical Freeze because the easy mode in this game doesn't let you keep the KONG pieces like it does in Funky Mode in Tropical Freeze. It fixes the original issue with the controls that the original Wii Version had, while still having the extra levels from the 3DS version. I heard complaints about framerate but personally haven't noticed anything after beating the game 101%. Game has never looked or played better, glad to have it on the Switch.

I think this is a fun modern platformer that captures a lot of the fun of the original snes series while innovating and taking advantage of modern technology. Heavy usage of the original music (updated obviously) is excellent for anyone with nostalgia for the old games. I definitely feel it’s missing something by not having the kremlings as the enemies, really miss those guys.

So I never had the chance to play this on the wii u but the 1st level is platformer heaven. Controls are great, map design is phenominal, and it's just a freaking good DK platformer. I would absolutely get this game. It can have more than 1 player too!

The gameplay is unchanged from the previous 3DS port, "Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D," except that it is not 3D, nor does it have the motion controls of the Wii unless you are a joycon fanatic! The only issue with this port, Is that the graphics are unfortunately, a mixed bag. some textures are improved, while some visual effects from the Wii version look worse! It's not a smooth transition to Switch as Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze was, But ultimately it's the gameplay that makes a game, And Donkey Kong Country Returns HD has plenty of it! A masterful 3D platformer with multiplayer and tons of hidden collectables and unlockable stages, Makes this a must have Gorilla experience that only the Wii could offer! NOW IN HD!
