Plug it in and the light draws the flying insects to it and they get stuck behind the plastic. You can see the insects, so it doesn't look gross and it's a little blue night light too. It works very well.

Right now I have this one in kitchen since sometimes we get flies from open doors and also those gnats from fruit and the like. Haven't seen anything caught yet but I will keep it on since I'm sure as warm weather comes we will get them!
