This mailbox post was made in Ontario, Canada. Not sure how mailboxes in Canada are made/mounted to their posts. I found the instructions for mounting my box to this post in the US to be nearly impossible. The assembly instructions say to pre-drill 4 holes with a 3/8" drill bit through the mailbox and paper holder arm as shown above to mount the box. There is no way to do this as shown. No standard drill used here is small enough to drill these holes through the top (the mailbox) with a 3/8" drill bit ( or even a much smaller bit for a pilot hole) or the bottom (the paper holder), so that you drill through both at the same time. This is for the medium mailbox size recommended by Mayne (mine is a little larger and still cannot do this).
Thought about drilling the holes through the paper arm holder first and then trying to match it up with the bottom of my box using a template I would create, so that I could then drill the box holes from the outside. But since Mailboxes sold in the US almost all have a wavy outside bottom, and maybe the inside bottom as well, I could not convince myself that they would line up. The area atop the paper holder arm that you would drill through is down about an inch or so from the bottom of where the box bottom will be. So it is difficult to drill the holes in the arm first, create a template to drill the bottom of the box and then mount. Doubt it would line up properly.
I ended up just drilling through the side holes of my box into the paper holder arm and attaching the box to the arm using screws. Not sure this will be sturdy enough.
During a walk this morning, I saw a mailbox/post that looked the same (Mayne maybe). I see that they had used a piece of wood between the box and the arm. This may work for you by drilling thru the wood and arm, and then using the wood as a template to drill thru the outside bottom of your box. But the waviness of your box bottom will still be a problem. Looking at it from 5 feet away, it looked ugly. Guess from the street driving by, it might not be noticed.
Having said all that, mine looks great. Just concerned if it will stay attached when the snow plows come.
