It’s a gas can.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this because I have the smaller version but regularly have to make two trips to the gas station in one day. This 5 gallon is built like the other. I won’t say they are the easiest to use but I know it’s a government regulation to have the child safety mechanisms. Sometimes I feel like I need an extra hand to get it going but the palm level works ok. The flow of gas is really slow and sometimes it leaks. You also have to fill it slowly, mine has some sort of filter at the spout. To be honest, I haven’t got it working perfectly to an exact science yet but it is a good quality can. Plastic is thick and the 5 gallon ensures I have plenty of gas on yard work day. It’s one of the better cans that you can buy, I would recommend it.

big and sturdy and comes in handy!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Recently received this Gas Can, which is big and sturdy but also secure enough that I didn't feel too concerned that I has gas in the back of my truck while working out in the field. We lost a bunch of limbs on our ranch due to the Ice Storm in Texas and this baby kept my chainsaws and mowers gassed-up all afternoon long. Great product!

The easiest pour ever!!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] No spill at all. Literally leak proof. The moment you let off the handle the flow stops. This is a 5 gallon container the placement of the handles makes carrying and pouring a very easy task. The container has a strainer in the opening which filters the fuel. This ensures that you are always getting clean fuel in your equipment. This is the first container I have come across with a strainer in it. This is definitely way ahead of the competition.

Safety for sure

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I just got this gas container despite having trouble with a smaller version that I got a couple of years ago. The issue was how difficult it was to pull back the release lever. But once I used it several times it got easier. I have to say that this one is easier to use but has the same tension. My wife makes me fill the mower for her, and my mother has trouble with hers. But as far as safety goes, it definitely isnt going to spill or rush out like regular gas containers can do.

Not your typical gas can!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This gas can is a far cry from the big, heavy, metal gas cans of my childhood! This SmartControl 5-gal Gas Container is light and extremely ergonomically friendly which makes handling and pouring much easier! The cap and leak-proof valves ensure that no gas is ever spilled during transport.

Gonna work great!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Nice gas can. Plenty of storage for me. Nice safety features to keep children from getting the gas to come out. Nice handles for carrying and pouring. Does require moderate hand strength to compress gas release valve. But a good quality gas storage container.

great can, terrible, difficult ot use, leaky spout

I bought a couple of these for my garden tractors and generators, what a mistake, nearly impossible to get gas to pour into either my Ariens zero turn or garden tractor witout spilling everywhere. I ended up buying a couple of plain aftermarket gas caps and a strainer funnel and fill it the old fasion way. At least the old army style steel jerry cans can be sealed against leakage with a good gasket and you can see how much gas is going into the tank past the good old reliable spout. Someone needs to shoot the designer of these new "Safety spouts" since they are all a PITA and frustrating to attempt to use.

Hi Olddalt1 - We apologize for your experience. Customer satisfaction is very important to Scepter. We STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST using this can with the modifications you’ve described. Similar to medication packaging, gas/diesel cans must also adhere to strict child resistance packaging laws. All fuel containers sold in the United States must come equipped with a child-safety lock and adhere to environmental regulations (EPA). This product should only be used with the spout it came with at the time of purchase. Every automobile/equipment is different, so it is not a one size fits all situation. The SMARTCONTROL gas can, is designed to be used with your palm. Step 1: Vent the fuel can by slowly unscrewing the cap, allow all the pressure to escape. Once vented re-tighten cap. You may find that placing the fuel can flat on the ground and actuating the spout once or twice prior to use may allow the green pad to slide easier during operation. Step 2: Flip up dark lever on back of spout with your palm. Step 3: With the dark green lever still flipped up, push the entire light green pad forward. It will be stiff as that is part of the child resistant feature. Again, you may find that placing the fuel can flat on the ground and actuating the spout once or twice prior to use may allow the green pad to slide easier during operation. Step 4: Tilt can and pour. This can has a flow rate of 3+ gallons per minute when actuated fully. The “screen” you see in the neck of the fuel can is actually a safety device called a flame mitigation device (FMD). Its inclusion in fuel containers is part of a 2020 U.S. law to improve overall safety. It does not make it safe to mix Gas and Fire, which remains extremely dangerous, but helps to protect the consumer against situations of potential misuse. Do not ever remove or modify the FMD. We understand that filling the containers now requires the user to learn to rest the pump in the center of the FMD, on the steps, to fill at full speed. The spout has a channel for venting when pouring. You can also choose simply to take your time filling the container. We have posted both fill and pour instructions online at https://www.scepter.com/safety/instructional-videos/ which should help. Please contact our Customer Service team at 1-800-387-6018 or email customerservice@scepter.com if we can be of any further assistance. We are here to help!

Great!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Scepter - 5G SmartControl Gas Container with Rear Handle works properly and holds gas great, no leakage at all and is easy to use, even for my wife. The material is sturdy, I filled it all up, and yes it was heavy but the handle is strong and sturdy so was not difficult to move it around.

Nice fuel can

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Got this fuel can to keep handy around the garage in case I needed an extra couple gallons of diesel. It is a good can and works pretty well. Not messy and pours good. I like that it’s 5 gallons. That’s a lot.
