With about a month on my wrist, I'm surprised how much I love this wristwatch, I've already purchased 5 different bands for it. This is probably my best digital watch to date. I've owned an Apple Watch Ultra, many G-Shocks, and this is by far my favorite digital watch. I'm a huge fan of stainless steel diver watches for their durability and simplicity, but I love digital watches for their features.
This is the perfect smart watch as it feels more simple, and I wanted to get a way from touch screens. Its software and ease of use has LEAPS and bounds of an advantage over G-Shocks. People love simplicity in UI's. It is a larger-sized watch, which most dudes like, and has Garmin (as mentioned) easy-to-use software on the watch itself, and the apps as well. The battery life says 23 days after a full charge, and I can verify that's true. I workout everyday and run/walk afterwards. I've showered with it and have banged it up a few times. There are no scratches and it takes a beating.
My only concern is not being able to push buttons underwater, as it states not to press them while submerged. Sounds small, but this was an advantage G-Shocks have. I'm soon to be an EMT and know that I'll be outside in the rain and will depend on seeing the seconds and will also be setting timers while wet. Working out in the rain is mandatory for me, so I really need to be able to press buttons without the fear of water damage. I also like to set a timer when showering, and clean it daily after sweating in it from working out. We'll soon see.
The display backlight has great lighting and you can adjust the times for it to remain lit as well. There are multiple faces, as each of us has particulars we like to see at a glance, and I was surprised at how much you can customize your screen. The display is very clear. I don't use the notifications, save for the hourly timer. I got tired of the Apple Watch vibrating all the time - too distracting, and the battery wasn't as good as I thought it would be. The alarms on the Instinct 2 wake me up daily, and the fact it is Bluetooth means that you will get accurate time, as this feature is an absolute prerequisite of mine. For your alarms it has a sound and vibrate feature which I use. I don't use all the features, but do have the Starbucks app loaded.
The GPS and ability to find your starting points on hikes is awesome. We'll see how this holds up underwater pressing buttons. I will give this a year, and then I'm looking at the Garmin Instinct 2X Tactical. I love the built in flashlight on the 2X and don't want to worry about the battery, so solar will be a major factor. I also like large watches that actually are so big they hold sleeves back. I never tuck my watch under a sweatshirt or long sleeve running shirt.
Just buy it. It's worth it. Good wrist presence, feels great with its larger size, and is an absolute workhorse. So happy with my purchase! My only suggestion is again about making it even more waterproof, and getting rid of the texture grip inside the bezel. The screen should be slightly deeper in, with more robust rubber/plastic circular protection. The inside can be hard to clean with its textured grip. This will probably be my first of many Garmin watches. Hope this lengthy review helps!
