I've used Neutrogena Ultra Sheer SPF15 and 30 for years. I wanted more protection so brought this product with SPF55. My skin is not usually sensitive, I had never previously had a reaction to any sunscreen. But this product made my face turn bright red and hurt. A friend of mine had the same experience with this sunscreen. It must be the "helioplex" formula. I went back to the Ultra Sheer SPF 30. I definitely do NOT recommend this sunscreen.

AVOBENZONE: Sunlight causes this unstable ingredient to break down into unknown chemicals, especially in the presence of another active, Octinoxate. An oil soluble sunscreen agent. Classified as a “chemical” sunscreen because it works by absorbing UV rays over a wide wavelength, and then converting them to less damaging infrared radiation (heat). It's marketed as a “broad spectrum” sunscreen because of it protects the skin against the sun's entire range of UVA rays. It is one of the few chemical sunscreen agents with comprehensive UV protection, and for this reason, used in a large majority on sun protection products. It is also used in cosmetic products to protect other ingredients from deteriorating under the sun. Tests have revealed Avobenzone's tendency to significantly degrade in light over time, lessening its sun protection capabilities. For this reason, most sunscreens containing the ingredient also include photo-stabilizing ingredients like octocrylene. A number of companies have developed technologies to help stabilize the ingredient (i.e. Helioplex™, Active Photo Barrier Complex™), however the full risks associated with long term use of Avobenzone have yet to be determined. Safety Measures/Side Effects: Avobenzone appears to be relatively non-toxic and non-irritating to the skin. However, because it is often used in conjunction with photo-stabilizers, there is a greater risk for skin irritation and low-level toxicity. Furthermore, some studies have demonstrated it to be absorbed by the body and secreted into urine, and is therefore not recommended to use on children or pregnant women. Some skin specialists believe it to be just as harmful as PABA, and certain studies suggest that the ingredient behaves similarly to the hormone estrogen; however, the SCCNFP has gone on to negate the latter mentioned claim.

I would definitely recommend this sunscreen if you want a trusted skin care company taking care of you.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love Neutrogena Sport Face Oil-Free Lotion Sunscreen. It goes on very well and doesn't make my face oily like other sunblocks can. It doesn't come off with sweat or water. It also doesn't run into my eyes and sting. It covers very well and I do not get sunburned. I highly recommend. Neutrogena is an awesome brand and has made another great product.

I went to St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands in the middle of July and slapped this on me every day multiple times a day and not only did I NOT get my trademark vacation sunburn but the formula went on smoothly, smelled good, and didn't leave a greasy residue!

My husband even commented how light it felt when he applied it. It has a light scent more along the line of a lotion instead of the typical sunscreen smell. SPF is 70 so I even applied it to my face. Live this sunscreen!!!

However, if I use the wrong product my skin rashes out horribly, making me hesitant to try anything new. I used the Sports Face oil-free on my forehead (easier to hide if necessary) to see if I had a reaction then headed to the beach. So far, I haven't broken out and it did a great job.

It was very easy to use, had a wonderful light scent and no sticky after feel on my hands, which is a big bonus. The reason I said I probably wouldn't buy this in the future is because I use sunscreen so sparingly. The bottle might last me 3 years or so. I just tend to stay out of the sun and with olive skin, I don't tend to burn. Thanks for letting me try!!

This is a wonderful, inoffensive sunscreen for daily wear. The texture is not too wet, nor is it too heavy. It applies really well on both face and body. It does stain white a little, but it should be find if you fully incorporate it into your skin and are careful beforehand with clothes and other fabrics.
