Hello "JD", thank you for taking time to leave us your feedback today. When sending commands from the VIZIO TV remote to the TV itself, those commands are sent via an IR signal. When using a cable or universal remote, it will require programming or a way of sending the IR codes that the TV will recognize. Different universal or cable remotes will can require differing lengths of codes needed for that programming as well.
