Excellent Gaming TV

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The VIZIO 40" Class FHD LED Smart TV D-Series D40f-J has a superb refresh rate which is ideal for today's gaming systems. We have noticed very little lag in the scenes. The blacks are very dark and the shadows are visible with the full array backlight. And the addition of Chromecast adds the ability to control and watch shows from the endless number of embedded apps available on it. When playing games or watching movies during the day, the screen is bright enough to be able to see everything that going on with little to no disturbances. And a nice compliment to it is the speakers. Most televisions are lacking in audio, assuming most users are going to invest in a surround sound system. This one has virtual surround sound built in to help eliminate the need for this. Unless you are sharing with the neighbors, the audio is more than suffencient. If you do want to share with your neighbors, then you already have this covered.

Disappointing.

This was my fourth Vizio, so I had high expectations. Had to start off by doing a reset of the remote to get it to work. Tried for several hours to get access to my cable. Read a bunch of solutions by people who had the same problem with Vizio. No success for me. Called Vizio tech support and they got me to what amounts to a Vizio set of free channels. But not my cable. Might be OK for those who only want to stream. Not for me. I'll be returning it.

I HATE THIS TV!!!!

I hate this television! It turns itself off and on; it goes to a black screen; it has to “think” when streaming. Hands down the worst television on the planet. It was purchase in late January or early February. It worked for just over a months then went stupid. DON'T PURCHASE THIS THING. This was a lesson learned on impulse purchases. I should have read the reviews!

Smart TV - Good Picture w/ Limited Audio Output

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This item shipped in its retail shelf packaging with no outer box. When it was delivered, I could see that the box was damaged, which is the reason I purchase most similar items in-store where I can visually inspect the box before purchase. (See photo.) Though hesitant, I opened the box. Inside, I found the TV which was safely secured with its form-shaped styrofoam blocks at bottom and top, the Quick-Start Guide, and its remote control unit with Duracell-branded OEM batteries included. I didn't use the Guide as the initial setup was simple and straightforward upon plugging-in and powering up the TV. The setup process guides the user through network connection, firmware upgrade, device naming, and channel search - or skipping same, as I did. The remote buttons on this unit, at this time, include these free channels and/or subscription services: peacock, NETFLIX, prime video, Disney+, CRACKLE, and tubi. There is also a Watch FREE+ button which currently default navigates to PLUTO TV. At a maximum 60hz refresh rate, it can be difficult to view some content artifact-free, but the main drawback in my plan for plug-and-play replacement of an older VIZIO TV model was the lack of RCA stereo output ports. While there are RCA INPUT ports for the standard red (right channel audio), white (left channel audio), and yellow (video) the only output port is via digital audio. It seems that most design and manufacturing has officially moved away from analog digital outputs to including (exclusively) digital audio out using the optical fiber connection, and sometimes a headphone/aux cable jack. Abandoning plug-and-play with my home theater system, and ordering a separate converter (digital to analog audio), I won't know whether the conversion will operate as intended until I receive it. The unit is cast-ready and mine worked well. I also tested and used some of the basic functions included with the free VIZIO SmartCast App (Android version) which renders the user's cell phone a remote control for the TV, complete with voice commands. I would recommend this item to a friend while including the aforementioned provisos.

I purchased this TV to replace the one in my bedroom which quit working. Its my first experience with a Smart TV and Im really happy with the set-up process and user friendly interface. The TV is very light weight which is great. The only thing which I found a bit difficult was screwing on the two stands. Its just a little awkward with the screws but overall not a big deal. I would recommend that you check to make sure your table is wide enough to accommodate the two stands if your not going to mount it on the wall. My last TV just had one stand in the center of it so I was a little surprised about the two stands on the sides. My favorite thing about this TV is the sound. Its really quite good! The picture is good too. Walmart sells this exact same TV in a 43 inch model for the exact same price, so if you like a bigger screen Id suggest you get that one.

Good TV for the basics

Cleary at 1080p it's not a top-of-the-line model, but I'm using this TV in my bedroom and at this size one would be hard-pressed to see the difference between 4K and 1080p. Also, if you're using this TV to display content you get OTA via an antenna then the majority of stations (as of this review) only provide video in 1080 or 720 resolutions, so get a 4K TV would be waste. I will say that my biggest complaint is I'm using this TV in my bedroom, but the remote has no sleep button. The TV does support sleep but you have to go into Menu > System > Timers >Sleep Timer...a bit of a pain. As for the remote itself, it is infrared which now a days is a slowly dying technology...wish the remote was wireless so you can use it without the need to always needing point it at the direction of the TV, but the infrared signal seems strong and has good distance. The remote is light and basic, although personally I'm not a fan of the app buttons for apps I will never use, wasted real-estate IMHO. The smart apps provided with the TV are all the popular ones, but Popcorn TV is my favorite and makes me wonder why I would pay for cable or satellite services going forward. One note is this TV only supports wi-fi no Ethernet, so make sure you have decent wi-fi if you plan on using the built-in smart apps. Using the smart apps are good, but switching between them does feel a bit sluggish to me, although not to the point where I would just not use the smart apps...just wish they were a bit more snappier. The TV comes with plenty of external port options that 90% of users will be happy with. 2 HDMI, Composite, Coax (great for OTA Antenna signals), optical audio for connection to newer sound bars to name a few. Speakers on the TV are fine for me using it in my bedroom, but if one was to use it as a main TV in the living room, you might consider adding a sound bar to improve sound.

Very Nice

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was perfect for a small bedroom/office. The tv was easy to set up and the picture is clear. The sound is ample enough for the smaller room but I had an extra sound bar so I just added it easily. I'm very pleased with this tv.
