The Epix is Fun

I didn't need this electronic device, however I don't regret the purchase. It has a lot of features built into a miniature device. First and foremost the GPS will lay a track better than 4 handheld GPS's I currently own (e.g., under a forested canopy). I make my own maps and a have been able to update most of the map tracks to my local mountain bike trails. I have these custom maps uploaded to the Epix. The heart rate monitor seems accurate and will work for hiking/walking, but get yourself a chest strap for other activities. Sleep tracking is good. Battery life is not an issue, and the device charges fast! Size and weight of watch is fine and not intrusive. While setting navigation to a projected waypoint or using the map is a bit awkward, it works well and can be used (and set) during an activity (think kayaking in a fog bank). Compass seems very accurate and is calibrated at the factory. The multiple watch faves are attractive and easy to read and can contain 7 (or more?) fields of information. Problems... Using a earbuds (Bluetooth) and a chest strap heart rate monitor will cause the heart rate monitor to disconnect frequently. However, this is the only issue I've had. Overall, very satisfied with this device after a month of use and recording 20 activities.

Favorite garmin watch

I am happy that garmin is evolving with the displays on their wearables. Besides the price it's the best money I ever spent on a garmin product. Hopefully the prices on the Marq Gen 2 will be lowered for those of us on a budget. I am a garmin customer forever making this my 4th watch. I will just like to see the price range a little more affordable.

Amazing watch, with issues after about a year

I love the watch and how easy it is to use. Great for running and MTB, with amazing screen options. Long battery life and stilish finish to use as an everyday watch( besides a sports gadget). Unfortunately after about a year when the battery is lower that 50%, in gesture mode, the screen starts flickeing and it is hard to get the screen to stay on. Shame, I bought the watch with the idea of using it for at least 3-4 years but the flicking issues is pretty annoying

Better then expected

I bought the Epix for international travel and walking around. Yes its a fitness watch...but along side that ...it changes time zones anutomatically, has a beautiful clear display , I walk a lot around european cities...more like hiking around. It keeps measure of that. and when I do go out for a hike - its geared for that

All the features I have dreamed of……

I have owned an Apple Watch for years. Last year I completed a 100 mile hike and knew the Apple Watch would not be worth bring due to the battery life. The Epix has brought so much more to my hiking, cycling, and gym workouts thank I every could have imagined. Bluetooth headphones to my music saved on the watch and guided workouts. Very pleased with the transition to GARMIN.

Great update

I had been a fenix fan for most of the series life but used an apple watch for daily use for a short time for work purposes and loved the apple screen, but the epix screen and giving a solid weeks worth of battery life with the screen. Perfect. I really love how maps look when out hiking such better user experience.

Well-Rounded Fitness Watch w/ Nice Display

GPS tracking is accurate and now has a feature that lets the watch automatically pick the best satellite GPS system to use. No texting or talking available. This seems reasonable until you're getting calls or texts on a ski lift, etc and you think-"wow it sure would be nice to have an Apple Watch at this moment." Very helpful for way-finding but careful the bezel can and will scratch.

Mixed reviews. Lost opportunity

I usually upgrade Fenix watches on the odd cycles (3,5,7). I bought the Epix over the Fenix 7 because reviewers were impressed with the display (and otherwise the functions are the same, except battery life.) I like the new training features and sensors over the Fenix 5, but there's nothing major, and the 5 is still a great outdoor fitness/adventure watch. I think Garmin really missed the boat on the Amoled screen. Instead of making a really clear and stunning visual (like Apple), they seemed to just make the metrics smaller and screens more complicated, adding extra icons and stuff that add no additional value. Maps are clearly better--but I still use my phone for a map--much bigger and better interface. Garmin needs a UI overhaul and a completely different approach to UX, or this will be the last Garmin device I buy.

Awesome display and battery life

I have been wearing a Forerunner 945 for over three years and was very happy with it. The only thing that I was not happy with was the display. So I was looking for a watch with similar features but a better display. The epix (Gen 2) got my exactly that. I am very happy with the great display and on top a much better battery life. I could not be more happy this watch! Great product.

Verdict still out

I've had my epix2 for just about one month. I chose it for the screen, the mtn biking capabilities, and pool swimming coupled with general health stuff. Overall I like it and am impressed with the caloric expenditure info. I haven't been able to test the biking features yet, but look forward to in spring. I lift a lot and do like the weight lifting capabilities, hoping it's accurate on caloric expenditure. Major downfall I see so far: 1: the lap swimming needs some software tweaks. It will often short my swims by 25 yards/100 yards swum. In other words, I swim 4 laps and it shows 75 yards. Really?! And no way to manually correct it. Also, this thing has GPS, so why can't it record my drills, like kicking laps?? If it won't record that distance then at least make a software update so I can specifically enter what my drill is, how far, then estimate my calories and all from that and heart rate. I'm wondering if Samsung or Polar are better at these. 2: I'll fully charge it and it will say 14 days life. I have the watch face set to gesture, so not always on. As soon I get to the gym it starts dropping fast. After my last charge I was at 9 days after working a bunch (5 days). Then I workout my day off, lift and swim. 2-2.5 hours. And it's down to 4 days. I plan to keep closer track of this..
