If you spray directly on the ant or fly they will walk around a little bit first but then they die. I tried spraying outside around a door. I did not see any ants or other bugs when I sprayed, but I was curious if I'd see any dead ones where I sprayed later. I did not. Maybe it acts as a deterrent, though. So the best way to kill the ants/flies is to spray them directly. It's more accurate than a fly swatter, but you will have to clean up the spray from where you sprayed. I like that this product is safe for kids and pets. Be forewarned, though, this spray has a very strong smell. One of my children even commented on how strong it smells. Honestly, I'm not sure if I'd buy it again because of the smell. Since that's more of a personal preference, I'm just taking off one star since the product does indeed work.

I simply sprayed it around the parameter walls. It does have an interesting after smell, not terrible just unusual. I recently tried this stem product and used it to kill ants and flies around the house. pros: it has a nice flowery scent. it is supposed to be botanically extracted and therefore safe for the family. it says it can be used indoors. it kills ants pretty fast and it kills flies super fast. the non- aerosol sprayer was easy to control and didn't seem like you had to dispense too much. Most of the time, only 1 spray was needed, with 2 sprays necessary for larger ants or flies. I read more about the active ingredient, geraniol, and it is an essential oil derived from geraniums. cons: the scent really was strong when used indoors. I believe it may have left stain marks from killing ants on my concrete patio, but I will wait and see once it's fully dried. This spray is nice for when you have a pest bugging you, but i don't think it will actually eliminate the entire problem, like if you have a big ant issue in your house. Overall, it's definitely a nice product to have around the house to instantly and safely kill annoying bugs.

I received product reimbursement in exchange for my honest review. the Stem ant roach flies spray smelled really clean, like lemony citronella. I love that smell, but that's not everyone's cup of tea. I sprayed a few flies in my house, the spray got on them and it looked like it kinda made them twitch a while and make a long slow death. I don't think it's a humane killing spray. I will try it again, maybe they were extra sturdy flies.

The smell is little chemically, but overall it is tolerable, and dare I say pleasant. Being disabled, I especially like that the spray bottle is easy to use and not too heavy. I even like the clear packaging, so I can see how much is left. In addition, I like how effective STEM is, especially against those biting flies that tend to devour my legs and make sitting outside a pain! I will say that the spray tends to not wipe up super easy on the concrete, so you may want to use a little water on the concrete to dilute. (Always taking those extra steps for my babies). Oh, and the bottle is recyclable! All in all, I really like STEM. It does the job and makes me feel like I am taking care of the environment!

I tested it by spraying one anthill and one ant trail in my driveway. After 4 hours the ants were still moving as normal in both places, after 16 hours some ants died but the majority remained. Word of caution: as the bottle warns, the spray can damage plants and it did damage my grass around the anthill. I would consider using this product to spot treat areas inside where my kids and pets play, but I don't think it is particularly effective on any larger scale.
