I purchase this bread because it has more fiber than the pan bread loaves. It tastes very good and is reasonable to purchase. Kids generally like a white bread better and this is not a dark bread has a slight color to it but has that whole grain goodness.

A Replacement

I usually like white wheat bread a lot, but there is something about this bread I can’t quite understand. It was really fresh and texture was good, but it had an aftertaste that I just couldn’t identify. It was weird. I can’t even describe what it is—it just had a really weird aftertaste that I got right when I was swallowing. Truthfully I enjoy the butter bread better, but it was not available.

God awful bread!

This bread was terrible! It was so dry it would choke a horse! The freshness date was 6 days down the road, I would hate to see it then. Sara Lee USED to have "decent" bread, not any more! Why is it so difficult to find good bread anymore? I'll tell ya why, they have remove all the good ingredients that make it taste good. I will NEVER purchase another loaf of this CRAP!

Tastes like childhood

My childhood type of bread with less unhealthy guilt. Yes, I know that just because the word ‘wheat’ is on the package doesn’t make this bread any healthier than the .88 cent bread and simply means it’s got flour in it but let me have my childhood fantasies. Nothing better than pbj on this bread.

It doesn't taste "better"..

It doesn't "just taste better", I hate this bread. I try a new loaf every time I buy bread to see what different things I like - this is the worst one. (I'm on a pursuit to see what makes the BEST PBandJ). Not this loaf! I don't like the way it smells; the bread is harder and dry rather than soft and firm. I've tried Sara Lee Butter bread too, that one isn't AS bad, but this is definitely not on my "buy again" list.

It is NOT sandwich bread.

This is not "sandwich bread" as it states. It is "round top bread." Sandwich bread is square, and is extremely difficult to find now. Only Wonder Bread is available called "the Big Loaf" because they wanted to be different from those "others" called "Sandwich Loaf." The Sandwich Loaf was invented by a man named Pullman, so originally it was called "the Pullman Loaf" but also became known as pan bread and "sandwich loaf." It's the ONLY kind of bread I eat, I detest the round loaf, the top crust is disgusting to me, and with the square bread you do not have that horrible burned flaky round top crust. I know, you probably love it, but we are different which is what makes the world fascinating. Meantime, no bread for me. Been a LONG TIME since I've had any BREAD at all. Wonder Bread's "Big Loaf" is dry, not really Wonder Bread's recipe anymore after they sold out. And all the other companies, even great value bread, have stopped making it because after the Pandemic, ALL companies have shaved the flavors of everything they make down to only what sells the fastest. No more choices and variety for humans.

Such as it is…

Most bread is made of hard red winter wheat grown in the southern Plains from Texas up to Nebraska. The northern Plains, though, from the Dakotas into Canada, grow soft white spring wheat. This makes bread that is better tasting than the usual whole wheat, and more nutritious than the usual white bread. Bread is made with 100% white whole grain wheat, but I dare you to find it. This SaraLee bread “made with” white whole grain wheat is likely the best compromise readily available. The first ingredient is still the standard flour from hard red wheat, processed to remove the harsh taste — and a fair amount of the nutrition. It does include some flour from soft white wheat, however. Be thankful for small blessings.
