This is my second time placing an online order for floral delivery through Sams Club. Both times were for Grad parties, and both deliveries exceeded my expectations. I received delivery on a Tuesday for a party on the following Friday. This time around, I ordered Pink Gerbera Daisies, White Campanula, and “orange” Alstroemerias. For all three flower types, I made fresh cuts at the end of the stems before placing them in 5 gallon buckets containing fresh water and flower preservative and storing them in our basement for a cool and dark environment.
The daisies came packaged with a protective “hairnet” and straw-like stem support on each bloom. I removed the netting as I made a fresh cut and put them in water, but I left the straws on until we created the arrangements on Friday, for fear that the gigantic blooms (expanded to 4-5” diameter by Friday) would overwhelm the stems. I’m glad I did; the stems held up wonderfully for the event, but a few of the larger booms were drooping on the stems by Saturday. This could have been avoided by wiring the stems ahead of time, a skill for which I lacked both time and qualifications. Please note that each of the 80 blooms was flawless, with only some small chaffing on some stems where the straw tubing rubbed.
The white Campanula were equally beautiful, it somewhat more delicate. I picked off maybe 3 brown spots in total off of the blooms upon opening the package. By Friday there was no additional browning, only some occasional wilting among the lower blooms on a few of the stems. Again, not ALL stems, only some, and always blooms near the bottom that were probably submerged in the water in the bucket for 3 days.
The “orange” Alstroemerias were as beautiful and delicate in appearance as the Campanula, though surprisingly much hardier! I am writing this review a full one week after taking delivery and with occasional water changes these beauties are still going strong!! I refer to them as “orange” because rather than the orange as it appears in the photo, the blooms I received were a two-toned variety that exhibited more dark pink and a little orange on each petal. This may be because the variety pictured was unavailable, I’ll never know. Regardless, it was stunning in its own right, and blended in well with the other flowers and our color scheme. Also worth mentioning, this flower has big, beautiful dark green leaves, so much so that you could order it in a few complimentary colors and not need any filler/added greenery whatsoever. This was the main reason I chose this particular flower and it looked beautiful! I’m so IT challenged, if I can figure out how to add the photos I took of the blooms in the buckets and sour final arrangements, I will do so!
Finally, as to longevity. The day after the party I did some pruning and combining of arrangements, and took them to a few of our elderly friends and neighbors who couldn’t make it to the party for them to enjoy. They were just too lovely still to simply throw away! As I mentioned, it’s one week post-delivery and the Alstroemerias are still going strong. The pink Gerberas are just as lovely, if only I had taken the time to wire the stems. I have been weeding out the wilting Campanula as they fade, but even today there are still some hanging on. If you’re on the fence about ordering florals online from Sams Club, I urge you to take a chance! If you’re experiences are similar to mine, you won’t be disappointed!
