This generator is everything it claims to be. Easy to set-up, use and is reliable. I hooked it up to my home for a test-run the day after I received it. It started up instantly and powered the entire "critical function" sub-panel in my home (HVAC, water/well, freezers/refrigerators, water heater (gas), water softener, garage door, washer/dryer (gas), WIFI/network and critical lights/outlets). We built our home in 1998 (just prior to "Y2K", ha!) and included the sub-panel. I toyed with the idea of now installing a whole-home generator - but that would have been an $8-10K investment - this was <$1K. For the roughly one power outage we experience every 2-3 years, this is a good, economical solution.

I bought this tri-fuel model expecting to run it with Natural Gas. When I connect it to either NG or LPG, and switch the fuel selector knob no fuel gets to the cylinder. It will run on Gasoline only. The corporate service department has been no help. They suggested I take it to their closest franchise dealer (in the next county) but it's too heavy to transport myself; but for $240 they'll pick it up and return it with no guarantee it will be repaired. Needless to say I'm more than disappointed.

Once we got it on the wheels it was a breeze to maneuver. This feature helps to get it out of storage once it is actually needed. This generator works great and without jinxing myself I can't wait to use it. This generator will have enough power to operate all of my essential appliances if the power happens to go out. I can't say enough good things about it!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Generac 5500 generator was very simple and easy to put together. Adding oil and fuel easy as well. Start-up with manual startup was fairly easy. This unit also comes with a battery for an electric start which is pretty cool. The load can handle several small appliances such as a refrigerator, freezer and a TV or you can use it to run a single 220 volt HVAC system by itself. Moving the unit is a breeze as it comes with a handy handle that folds up and down for easy storage. Overall I highly recommend this unit and Generac is well known for their reliability and quality.

It requires gasoline which is a minus for me because of the smell but at the same time, it is easy to find and purchase. This is a very heavy item, and you will need a friend to move it around!

When we lost power it gave us comfort allowing us to run our portable AC and keep our refrigerator running. This generator has brought great value to our house. A additional benefit is it's on wheels so we can easily set it up. Generac is a very durable generator. I was given this generator to test and write my review. I highly recommended this generator because it's very easy to set up and its dual fuel makes it easy. It has all the essential features that a generator need, i live in the south so losing electric during the hurricane seasons is nothing new. The size is decent for an essential generator, not to mention its outstanding performance that help my refrigerator, can charge my electric car, microwave during the time of losing power. On our last storm our power went out and the GP4000 was able to handle the power to my refrigerator. I also was able to keep my families phones charged. With this generator you have two fuel options, gas or propane. Which is perfect for on the go! I used gas to run it and it was super easy to fill! I am beyond pleased with this generator!
