Does the job
Have had the generator for a few weeks but held off running it until I had a manual transfer switch installed. That happened this week and so the time came to test the switch and the generator. As this was a first run the carb and tank were dry. In went the quart of oil, about a gallon of gas, I pressed the (electric) start button and it fired up without a hitch. I then flipped the well pump, furnace, fridge, a couple of lights and a chest freezer over and no-one in the house even noticed, and the generator wasn't even close to capacity. I hope I never need to use the unit in anger, but I'm happy that if we loose power, we will at least have the basics.
Advice about generator safety that everyone really needs to be aware with.
I have something to explain to everyone about how people use their portable generators during a power outage. A good decision is to have every house have a backup generator installed already which is a home standby generator or a solar panel. Home standby generators are safer because they use natural gas while most portable generators use gasoline which gives off carbon monoxide and not only that. They also injure people if used incorrectly. Many people have died each year when using portable generators due to carbon monoxide poisoning and electrocution. Remember not to run your generator indoors. Running your generator indoors is never safe. That will increase the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning which causes death. Always use your generator outdoors please. Make sure that your generator is 15-20 feet away from house and away from doors, windows, and vents. Some people also run their generator in wet conditions which can electrocute them. Here's an advice about generator safety: please remember that you should never run your generator indoors. Remember that carbon monoxide is an odorless and colorless gas that you cannot see or smell. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer. Keep that in mind. Make sure your generator is 15-20 feet away from your house and away from doors, windows, and vents. Having a carbon monoxide detector is very important against generator safety. Some people also allow children to go near the portable generator which could pose risks. We need to keep an eye on our children making sure that they are not near the portable generator so they won't get electrocuted or burned by the generator which is dangerous. A locking enclosure also keeps kids safe. A generator shed might look like a tempting place to explore, or take cover during a game of hide-and-seek, but a generator is a dangerous piece of equipment that can cause injury. It says on the manual that we should also keep children away at all times from the portable generator to avoid injuries. Generators pose electrical risks. If you need to use your generator during wet weather, you need a generator tent to protect your generator from getting wet. Don't let your generator get wet. Keep your generator dry and before using your generator, please make sure your hands and your generator is dry. Everything that is said on the generator's operating manual should not be ignored. Never smoke cigarettes near the generator. Please keep flammable things away from the generator. Never overload your generator too. Your generator can catch fire. Never ever try to plug a generator cord into a wall outlet to avoid back feeding. Back feeding your generator is dangerous. Always turn on your generator first before plugging in appliances and shut off the appliances before turning your generator off. Use a heavy duty cord for your generator and the cord should not be worn out. All the instructions should be followed carefully. Never refuel your generator while it's running. It can cause fire if fuel spills while your generator is hot. You should turn off your generator and let it cool off before refueling it. This is only a reminder for everyone's safety of using generators. Make sure your generator is properly grounded. This is only a reminder for everyone's safety and for everyone to know about. Thank you hope you stay safe as well.
Changing of the guard
We have been running our old 15KW Generac Guardian Ultra-source gasoline generator for the past decade to power our home during after hurricane power outages. The Generac has always been dependable. ( Be on notice however, if there are huge amounts of ethanol in gasoline, the unit WILL NOT RUN. A thing that may or may not be an issue after a hurricane ). We only run non-ethanol as a standard with fuel treatment, bolster your reserves. With standard maintenance (oil, plugs, filters, battery,,,) and running for 30 minutes+ every month, it has aways been “at the ready”. After 10 years, we are pulling the 15KW from service to rebuild the unit and it will be a backup. The 15KW would run 1 of 2 Central Vac systems, the heavy amp draw well pump, kitchen, home theater, lights, water heater, etc,,. Naturally we can shut subsystems off to conserve fuel. We do have our property in the swamps of Florida, 2 miles from the main road, so we are the last place where propane will be delivered after an event of a hurricane or other crazy events, that is why we chose gasoline. We purchased the new Generac 17500 and was delivered yesterday. At unboxing, we realized that the wheel axle was missing. Fortunately we had our existing 15KW and we had a working axel to maneuver the new 17.5 Generac through the landscaping into position. I thought, “here we go!”. I called Generac Support the next morning and “Bam”! The support rep was an English Speaking American in the States (Chris) and the part is on its way,,, UPS! 15 minutes of may time, done! Wow! It's a bummer that my new purchase was missing a part, but I am surprised at the quick phone pickup with a fix! We will see how the new Generac performs, as it is expected to a active hurricane summer in Florida, The El'Nino weather effect is drifting away again.
Absolute LIFESAVER
We went and purchased our unit at Lowes on the 21st of February We had no electricity so we decided to go to lowes and look they had just received a shipment! We got one and got it going that night we used it to power refrigerator and space heaters and a light! Thanks for making such an awesome product
Great machine - runs everything
I bought this generator to replace a much smaller unit so that I could run the electric range, HVAC, refrigerators/freezer, and water pumps in my home. I installed a 50-amp transfer panel and tested the setup with all the circuits pulling power, and the generator never missed a beat. Future plans are to install a 30-amp transfer panel to power the electric water heater, lights, and outlets. Others have remarked that the unit is too heavy to put the wheel kit on without help. I had no such problem - a hydraulic floor jack would probably help a lot.
Running through a winter storm outage
Inherited as part of our home purchase and to be fair did not pay much attention to it. Started it once just to check if it works about 3 years back. I had very little hopes of getting it started and have it working. Battery was flat (since i never charged it) and it had 4+ years old gas in it. NOTE: Please do not try this on your set :) It started on the second pull and have been running for last two days. We have 2 refrigerators, 1 deep freezer, forced air heating, washer dryer, garage doors, kitchen appliances including a microwave and whole house lighting. We are careful of not loading it up. With that said, this thing runs like a champ, flawless. Cannot recommend it enough.
Waiting for a big storm to put it through a real test
I wasn't sure what generator to buy, but the many positive reviews of the GP7500E helped sway my decision. Everything is checking out so far: it was easy to assemble and it started right up using the electric start. I'm looking into installing a manual transfer switch next. I'm a little concerned about keeping the generator maintained and ready to go if I won't need it for years to come.
Excellent generator
Bought this after sandy and it has not let me down Runs like a champ and starts after sitting for months. If you need a generator this is the one. Runs 3 refrigerators coal stove lights and tv with plenty of amps left for other household items like water pump and hot water heater.
The Little Generator that Could
During Hurricane Sandy we were without Power for 13 days. My friend got power back in five days so he lent me his Generac GP 6500 and it powered my four bedroom house for 8 days without a problem running about 20 hours a day. So I went out and bought one for myself. My neighbors with bigger generators were very impressed with my little generator that could.
Best value
Best value for price. Easy assembly. Started right up. Ran my pool pump, kegerator, deep well cooler, 1 window ac unit, 1 in wall ac unit with ease. It didn't even strain. Refrigerator and house lights are on solar, battery backup system. I did not try running central ac, stove, although it probably would if other loads were shut off. Connected my oscilloscope while under load. Voltage and frequency right on. Very clean pattern. More than happy with power output, quality.
