Great for backup power during hurricanes and other outages

We live in a rural area in south Georgia and lost power for 5 days during hurricane Idalia. A good friend loaned me his GP6500 once his power was restored and it saved us from loosing food in our refrigerator and freezer plus we were able to run our well and water heater. I was sold and purchased our own GP6500 the next week. He has owned his since before hurricane Irma and purchased it for the same reason.

Good value

While I only have a few hours on this generator, I've owned and used a few different models from different manufacturers. This one seem to be built on customer feedback. Simple features like the included fuel filter and the gas cap retention chain made me smile, along with the charging port for the battery and beefiness of the roll cage. Like many generators, it has a plastic choke lever, which I consider bad design. Its not a matter of if it will break, its when. There is plenty of torque on that lever. The included wheels aren't up to the quality of the rest of the product. They look and feel like they belong on a kids toy. I replaced them immediately with a better quality wheel w/ metal hubs and bearings. Otherwise, good product.

Great unit

I live in an area that is rural and the power goes out a few times a year. A month ago we had a storm and lost power for about 24 hours. I had a little generator but it was only good for a couple lights and t.v.. Problem is I have a refrigerator, a freezer, and a well pump I need power to as well. Next week I went looking for a bigger more reliable generator and found it with my generac 6500. After I got it home I was actually hoping to have another storm knock the power out so I could see how it would do. Wasnt long and it happened! It was only about a week later another storm came through and knocked the power out for about 7 hours. Long enough to try out the new generac. Rolled it out easy enough even though it's pretty heavy, pulled once and it was running like a champ. Plugged in the necessities and it handled everything. It was so nice to have in that situation. This winter I plan on having a transfer switch so I can run everything from lights to heat. I'd recommend this generator if your looking for one.

Great power for the money!

I got this generator after Irma hit and I was with out power for 6 days. I got it set up and had a manual transfer switch put it so I can power my entire house. I tested it today and it will run my central AC with out even breathing hard. I have 1600 square feet under air. I have not tested it yet but am figuring it will run out central AC, fridge and freezer with out much of an issue (as long as they don't kick on at the same time). As for the noise level, it's not quite by any means but I have used much loader generators that were much loader. It has a very low tone that is tolerable. Over all, I am currently very pleased.

Very Impressed - A well manufactured machine

I just purchased the GP17500E, Assembly was straight forward (A 2 man job). The over all design of the generator was well thought out, such as the oil fill area is large enough to fill directly, no funnel needed, also the oil drain is a hose, just unscrew the cap and you are draining the oil, couldn't be easier. Customer Support was very knowledgeable and get this, open 24hrs 7 days a week, I thought my company only did that.. If you order on line just be aware on the shipping method, Box Truck means a 52 foot semi trailer which was to heavy to go up your drive way, I grabbed my neighbor who had a pickup truck, unloaded on to the pick up and brought to the house. It all worked out. The generator started right up.

Awesome!!!

We finally used our generator (after purchasing for a year) a couple weeks ago when a storm took out our power for 8 hours. We knew the storm was coming so we took our generator out (in a shed on a steep hill) and it was very easy to maneuver and hook up to the generator outlet. My husband has it already set up with the gas and oil so all he did was turn it on and we were set. I used to cringe at thinking of losing power but now it's no biggie...... My Dad even purchased the same one after we told him which one we got and he's had no problems either.

The product is well worth the price I paid.

I have not used the generator in an actual power outage situation but when I ran a test it performed really well. I should have paid the difference and got an electric start but that was my mistake. It's a little loud but no more than expected. I believe it will meet my needs for a back-up during power outages.

First Impession not good, Sence then perfect

Bought this generator as a home back up. First use was a long term power outage in cold weather. After 17 hours it pushed the little gasket/bushing out of a fitting where the two wires go through the crank case for the low oil sensor, It puked all the oil out of it on my driveway until the low oil sensor shut it off. Not good at 2am in 5 degree weather. In the dark I thought it blew up with all the oil. Diagnosed it the next day, pushed the bushing back in place with silicone sealant. Sense then it's been perfect. I like the generator now but at 2am the first use I was frustrated. I would still recommend this generator as I think this was a fluke and it's been perfect since

Easy to use, reasonably priced, Gets the job done nicely!

I already had to use my generator, because the local substation near us was shut down for about eight hours. had it up and running in about 15 minutes and ran 80-90% of the house without interuptions. Very pleased with this generator! I would highly recommend this generator!

Good Reliable Generator for home back up use

With three consecutive NorEaster's this past March, power outages were commonplace on Cape Cod. Tired of being with out power, I researched generator manufacturers and dealers. Deciding upon the GP 8000 was a good decision. Fuel efficient, fairly quiet, many options, and most importantly ease of use. I travel frequently and wanted my wife to comfortable running it if needed. Not being mechanically astute, she quickly grasped the concepts and was comfortable operating the generator. Definitely recommend.
