Poor tires

After spending close to $3000. for this generator, the very least they could have done is put flat free tires on it. These tires go flat after about a week.

This is a tentative review

Out of the box looks great, easy setup and starts easily 1x per month for testing ( starting) only). Today I needed it most with an ice storm and power outage. Fired up and ran great, but produced no electricity from the outlets. I took it into the service center, but still had a dark cold house. I will update with my service and warranty experience.

Dissapointed with dealers / service reps in CT

I purchased this unit (GP17500E) for home backup power for my CT home. I have been trying to get a dealer / service rep to assemble the unit at my house - for a fee- and spare me the effort of having to lift a 400 pound unit to assemble the wheel kit (I have a bad back)....So far all the service reps in CT have turned me down. One told me they are not taking any more portables...Just be aware that if you purchase this product you'll be on your own trying to assemble it...

Well built machine

We bought our 76861 to replace our 20yr. old Coleman Powermate which still runs well. This machine will let us run more necessary things, like our well pump and furnace, and with the transfer switch, not have to dance over extension cords.I got 4 different wheels and tires for it, so now it is simple and easy to move over our yard, and in and out of the garage, looks like an open wheel modified from 1970.It started on the first pull after I put a couple of gallons of VP110 in the tank.It will only get 110 or VP SEF to eat, as you can leave it in the machine with no problems.I hooked it up to the house today, and it never seemed to notice the load.It is heavy, strong, and well made.It is well worth my money and I am very happy., with it and the 6853 transfer switch.

This generator has about average features

I purchased this generator as a back up for my home, and used it only 5 hrs and I haven't found it to be any better or worse to setup or features it offers. It is not as quiet as I had hoped. I have owned or own 6 generators. Size of those units have ranged from 2000w-15,000watts. The gas cap was very difficult to remove to fill with gas. Attaching the battery cables was not easy at all and I have some mechanical ability. Battery location could be better. Oil that comes with the unit does not give a 30W, 10W-30 label and does not indicate the size of the container, 32oz, 24oz, 42oz.. I did enjoy the ease of transporting it from the house where I assembled it to the shed in several inches of snow, where it is stored. That distance is 125 ft. The Generac brand has been around for years so I hope to get 1000 hrs + of use with no mechanical service issues.

Good basic generator, lacks some features, loud!

There is no voltmeter on the generator to indicate the generator is running at the correct speed to make the rated voltages. The generator is way too loud! It is so loud two people can't understand a word being said if you are very close to it. Muffler seems to be too small for the noise produced. The 50 amp receptacle is on the bottom of the control box. This is a bad place to be because the male plug for it tries to vibrate out. The little wire thingy that is supposed to hold the plug in is a joke because it doesn't fit any plugs I've seen. It needs a re-design.

Really well built

I bought this during the Bay Area power shut off and it's made my life a lot easier. It was easy to set up and it starts with ease. It's been running a bunch of things in my house with no problem. It ran about 10 hours on a tank of gas. My only criticism is that I wish it had a better muffler or some type of insulation as it's nosier than I thought it would be.

Junk

I purchased this generator in September 2013 and it started right up, no problems. We let it run a few minutes with the fuel shut-off in the off position until it ran itself out of gas to keep the gas from "dying" in the lines. I was thrilled at the time because I thought it was going to be a great investment. Not so much... I recently experienced 2 power outages and the generator will not run. Currently seeking a repair person to fix my BRAND-stinking-NEW generator. The machine doesn't even have an hour of run time on it. Highly disappointed in this purchase. If I had it to do over again I would have purchased a different brand.
