There’s a small layer on top that’s soft for comfort but not very noticeable for me. The first night I slept well with no issues. I settled on this one and am I glad I made that choice, I'm not longer tossing and turning during the night but the support is amazing with the springs and coils, the cooling effect is also a wonderful factor of it, especially as I have MS and just don't do well with heat so I'm glad this helps keep me cool.
