I have used Ecobee for over 5 years

Love Ecobee Smart Thermostat! I have used Ecobee for over 5 years now. I just moved to a new house and immediately installed an Ecobee. This verison has the home security which is a very nice feature. I love this thermostat because while I am away traveling I can control the home's temperature (saving me money) and receive alerts of any malfunctions.

I can't recommend it.

I never heard of ecobee but bought two of these in January 2024 because it showed up on a lot of top ten lists, some YouTube reviews, and because of the door sensor feature. It is the end of August at the time of this review and I am not a fan. I haven't even installed the door sensors yet because of how much these thermostats suck and the ongoing problems I already have. By installing the door sensors, I fear it would just be adding to the problems. First, the app. When the thermostat is offline at the wall (meaning it's accidentally disconnected from Wi-Fi), the app behaves like the thermostat is still online so if you change the temp in the app, the app will display the changes and act like everything is fine but really the thermostat will not receive these changes. And you won't know unless you walk up and physically look at the thermostat to see that there's a problem and the temperatures don't match. It also won't tell you if you're thermostat gets disconnected from Wi-Fi. Another thing, when everything is working fine, the temperature in the app is always a couple of degrees off from what is displayed on the thermostat because of long delays between the two syncing up. Because of that, the app will make you think your compressor is on when it's really not, or it's off when it's really on. My thermostats are three feet away from the router in clear line of sight. There are also no notifications when it comes to notifying you if someone has changed the temperature at the thermostat. Finally, customer service. It's hard to reach someone through either phone or chat due to long waiting times. When you finally get someone, it's 50/50 on whether you'll get your problem fixed or they'll tell you it's a different issue and recommend calling an HVAC professional. This is also another way of finding out that your thermostat was accidentally disconnected from Wi-Fi because they can actually see whether it's on or offline but their own app can't. The last time I tried to reach them, I used phone support and simultaneously opened their chat support to double my chances of reaching an agent. I waited over 20 minutes with no luck before ending both of them. If I could get my money back I would and go with different ones.
