I have used Lasko fans in the past, and always had very good experience with them. Now that my small fans had stopped working, I saw the Sam's sale price of this red one (which is my favorite color), so I decided to go for it.
When I was at the store, I decided to look for reviews, and found one long video in YouTube. Not the best video review, but it showed the separation between the grills and box (fan body), also the cheap quality of the grill which was broken already, the handle had scratches, a big punch on the steel, etc. Anyways, I decided to give it a chance and brought it home.
Immediately after opening the box, I noticed:
- scratches in the handle and grills;
- none of the grills were lined up with the steel body at all, and the separation was very noticeable;
- the screws were placed carelessly also causing some parts of the grills to look white, which happens when a plastic part is about to break after being over tightened;
- and one small punch in one of the steel sides.
It was so frustrating opening a "new" product to find it like that, that I didn't even wanted to test how it worked. If I buy/pay something "new", I expect/deserve to get a new product.
Exactly two days later, I went to Sam's to change it for one in good conditions. The employee agreed it wasn't lined up at all, but said the only option I had was to return it and buy one again... if for any chance they still have them. I explained that the sale price was ending "today" (day I returned), and if I had to buy it again I wouldn't necessarily get the same price I paid. She said they were going to refund me the amount I paid, and if I buy it again the same day, I was going to get the same price because it was still on sale, but next day it would go back to regular price. I asked if they could open one to see if it was good so I can buy it, since "Sam's doesn't do returns", but she said they can't do that and the only option I had was to buy it and open it in the parking, and return it again if it was in the same conditions. She didn't even wanted to check if they had them available. Seriously Sam's??!!
Well... I stopped in front of the bay where these fans were, and had a thought: "I ended receiving almost the same than the guy from the YouTube review. Do I really want to run the same chance again, get frustrated and have to drive back to Sam's and make a line to return it because they do not do exchanges?". And my answer was: No, thanks.
What a disappointing experience buying something defective from Sam's Club, and Lasko brand.
