I used to LOVE Special K as a child; it was my favorite part of a Kellogg's "Snack Pack" - more highly anticipated than sugary staples like Frosted Flakes or Apple Jacks or Sugar Pops! It had a unique taste that I continued to enjoy and, after a long hiatus, was eager to revisit. Eschewing "red berries" and other distracting add-ons, I was finally delighted to find unsullied "original" at a local grocery. At first sight, I knew it wasn't the same - variously sized flakes, NOT the little saucer-shapes I remembered. And when I tasted it, it was NOT the same as original. Just another ho-hum cracklin' flake recipe. Sorry, I think I'd prefer Froot Loops or Cocoa Puffs this time around.

Special k cereal has very hard stone like pieces in it! I at first thought it was pieces of glass. Not quite sure what they are but you cannot eat a bowl of cereal without encountering many of them. You could seriously injure a tooth. Would Kellogg’s like to pay dental bills? Do not buy this cereal! I will never again!

I remember eating special K as a kid in the late 70s and 80s. I recently started eating it once again. Flavour is what I remember but the shape is completely different. That's all fine. BUT recently I was enjoying a bowl and bit down (as one does when chewing) and there was an extremely hard piece of something (rice?!) In my mouth. I don't know if I cracked a tooth but it wouldnt surprise me. I can see I am not alone in this problem. Why is nothing being done about this?!?!

Makes me feel better about starting my day with a bowl. I'm excited to use it to make some scotcheroos (which I usually use a generic corn flake cereal for).

Our family has been using this cereal to make Special K bars for years. Last week (Nov 2024) I purchased a family sized box and made two pans of bars. They are horrendous! EVERY SINGLE bar has hard bits from the cereal that make them nearly inedible. These tiny hard pieces will break your teeth! This is not the first time we have experienced this, but it's certainly the worst it has ever been. What is going on with this product?

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a consistent cereal - no special flavors or additions but a good, standard cereal with good health benefits. It's a great source of iron and B vitamins. It didn't appeal too much to my kids (they are used to cereals with dried fruit or some sweeter flavor) but my husband and I liked it. It's tried and true - nothing flashy but the same flavor we're used to from Special K and can add fresh fruit to our taste. It's a great, consistent basic product that gives you a good breakfast (or other meal) that doesn't spike your sugar or leave an aftertaste from artificial flavors.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product tastes like other typical rice based cereals, flavor wise it holds its own against competing brands. However, one of my favorite parts of other rice based cereals is that you can use them in other recipes very easily. The shape of these removes the ability to use the cereal for some of those delicious other recipes. I'm also a person who routinely eats dry cereal in bed, so the size of the pieces matters a great deal. These smaller pieces also allow for the opportunity to be dropped more often or accidentally broken into even smaller pieces making my bed a mess (Lesson learned - no frosted flakes in bed).

For about 40 years now, this has been my go to cereal. Sure, I tried all the fruity and marshmallow stuff as a kid but always came back to Special K Original. At one point, it's all I ate for weeks and it helped me lose about 40lbs (I know, not the healthiest idea). I was stressed a lot at the time and it was all I craved. I eventually added more foods back to my diet but one thing remained, I ate Special K Original EVERY morning! I had tried the other Special K cereals too...Red Berry, Almond, Chocolate, Protein...not a fan!! It was ONLY the Original for me and my family. For years, I've purchased 3 or 4 family size boxes every trip to the grocery store then about 2 months ago, it was suddenly gone. I've tried numerous grocery stores and I can't find it anywhere!! What has happened?!!! I'm at a loss!!!! I'm missing my one and ONLY cereal, Special K!!!!!! Is it gone forever?!!! Has it really been discontinued like I keep hearing?!!!!! NOOOO!!!! Say it isn't so!!!!

I used to buy this Special K for 20+ years. Lately, the last few boxes, I'd get hard pieces once in awhile in my bowl of cereal. I'd ignore it or spit it out and move on. But it kept happening more and more. It was too much on my last box that I became wary of it. It was no longer enjoyable to eat because I'm worried I'm going to bite on a hard piece. Threw the box away rather than finish it. Not sure what it is. Uncooked parts? It's unfortunate because I really liked this cereal. Low in sugar and all. Would not recommend unless they fix this issue. I am not alone if you google it.
