Turtle-riffic!
My 2yr old knows all her ABC's but, for some reason, learning numbers did not come as natural. Since she loves turtles and anything mommy + baby, I thought this would be a fun toy to TRICK her into learning her numbers. The set comes with 5 baby turtles that can be nested into their matching larger turtles (parents). At first my daughter was only interested in pretend playing with the turtles, but then we asked her match the moms to the babies by color. Eventually, with guidance, she would count the symbols/shapes on the mom's shell, which corresponded to the baby numbers, and then match it to the babies. From there we asked her to name the babies by the numbers on their shells . . . and voila! She now knows her numbers; it took some time, but overall it worked! Learning numbers was our goal for this toy, but I can see this toy good for anyone wanting to teach shapes, colors, and matching.

The packaging that the turtles came in was easy to store in my classroom. The clear container caught my students attention very quickly. Right when they saw the turtles they were excited to explore them. Instructions weren't even nessicary for the toy. It is self explanatory! The toy it's self was very pleasing to the eye, colorful, easy to open, and well made. The children loved using them. They were able to open and close the turtle shell without any help. They could match the smaller turtle to the corresponding shell by its color and numbers. The toy had a way of helping the children count and also focused on color recognition. Also, helped improve their fine motor skills. I would recommend this toy for children 3 or younger. I even enjoyed playing with the turtles myself!
Fun and Educational
When I saw this toy I was impressed with all of the educational implications that were included with this toy. This toy includes primary colors, numbers, shapes and babies/mommies. My nephew learned so much playing with these turtles. He has gotten to understand and comprehend his shapes and numbers on a regular basis by playing with these turtles. I would definitely recommend this toy to anyone.
Makes learning fun!
We love these number turtles! First of all, they come in a nice, sturdy, plastic container - with a handle. There are five momma turtles, each being a different, bright color and five baby turtles of corresponding colors. Each momma's shell is imprinted with a different shape, and is detachable. Each baby turtle is numbered from 1-5 and fits nicely under the momma's shell. (For example, the blue momma turtle's shell is imprinted with 4 squares. The blue baby turtle's shell is imprinted with the number 4.) My three year old granddaughter loved putting these turtles together and taking them apart. We talked about and counted the shapes on each of the momma turtles' shells, then found the matching baby to put inside the momma. These turtles are great for color, number and shape recognition, and make learning lots of fun. I would definitely recommend these. I received this product as part of an incentivized review program.
Fun toy for learning colors and numbers!
The counting turtles set is a great toy for my almost-two year old to play with any of his older siblings or parents. It is packaged in a clear, sturdy, plastic container that is easy to use for storagewhen not in use. The set comes with 5 brightly colored turtle pairs - a larger "mama" turtle, and smaller "baby" turtle. Each baby turtle is marked with a number, 1-5. Each mama turtle has a detachable, snap-on shell with a different shape on the back. There are 5 different bright colors; each matching mama-baby set has corresponding numbers on the backs (eg., the red set has a baby with a 1 on its back; the mama has 1 circle on its back). This set is fantastic for matching and identifying colors, shapes, and numbers, working on one-to-one correspondence to 5 (or 10), adding, subtracting, counting, fine motor skills (the snap-on back is a cinch for my 4 year old, but the almost 2 year old has to work on it for a bit before snapping in place), and demonstrating to little children that different number symbols have different values. It's also great to watch my older children try to use the turtles to teach the 2 year old. I do feel that there is a limited window of time for children to get good educational use out of the toy, though it depends on the child. The two to three year age range seems just perfect; we can, however, extend the age a bit for my 4 y/o to practice addition and subtraction, using the turtles as manipulatives. Because I have 4 kids with a 7 year age range, I prefer toys that fall within more than one! So, while the toy is fantastic, and works on so many different skills, the age range is somewhat limited. That being said, I would definitely recommend it for those in the 18 month to 4 year old range (especially when there are older siblings who can help teach the littles)! Note: I received this product as part of an incentive program in exchange for my honest review
Good learning tool
It was a good learning tool for my 4 year old. It taught her how to recognize not only shapes and written numbers but made her count the shapes on each turtle. She enjoyed matching the number of shapes on the mama turtle with the number on the baby turtle.
