Why are the online jeans different??

I've been wearing these jeans for quite some time but I have a question. Why are the jeans that you order online different from the ones that you sell in the store? I find that the store jeans are thicker with less stretch and the ones that you buy online are thinner and more stretchy. They are the same price and have the same tags. People may want different things so I won't say one is of better quality as I will still wear them, but what's the deal?
