Ready to recycle

so, I bought this, but had to return it. the pedals are held on by small plastic clips, and in fact the pedals are plastic with just a thin metal cover over them. any amount of use and pounding by feet to open the lid will destroy the pedals, which are needed to open the lid, since its recessed a bit in the top, ie, you can't easily open it by hand (you'd need a screwdriver). Actually, the unit was already missing one of the small plastic clips used to keep the pedals in place, so it was falling out anyway.

Comparison, the simplehuman version for about 50 bucks more, gives you an all steel pedal mechanism which is much more durable. This is the one we ended up purchasing.

looks good, low quality

I like everything about it. It looks nice in our kitchen and with its removable inner bins, I can use a trash bag on the trash side and no bag on the recycling side (our recycler doesn't want bags) making it a breeze to keep things separate and easy to empty.

An added bonus is that the inner bins are super sturdy. I can compact the garbage side to my heart's content without deforming the bin, so the bag still slides out effortlessly.
