Love!
I LOVE my shark! The suction is amazing it pulls everything up out of the carpet. I love the hardwood floor attachment that it came with the only problem is the hose is a little short but other than that I love this vacuum! Yesterday I was able to plug it in in my kitchen and do my hardwood floors than vacuum all the way down the hall and my entire living room without having to unplug it because the cord is so long and I love it!
Almost Perfect
I research anything I plan on buying tirelessly for at LEAST a week before taking the plunge. I am very frugal and careful with my purchasing decisions. I own an older fixer upper 1100 sq ft house which has hardwood floors on the main floor and two sets of stairs. I have a husband with a messy job, 3 dogs who play in a big backyard daily and a 12 year old. My bissell would blow dirt and rocks out at you and you had to always dust after vacuuming including the outside of the vacuum. The house never felt clean enough and we had constant allergy problems. I planned on budgeting for new carpet because upstairs it always looks dingy( especially near the baseboards). I vacuumed with my 5 year old bissell that I despise and then used this vacuum. Actually.. My husband stole it from me(!!) and seemed to enjoy vacuuming! We filled up the canister twice!! Yuck. The old carpet upstairs is very low pile and it fluffed it up. To my amazement the dingy edges are now clean and white. I LOvE the lights on the hose nozzle and on the front of the vacuum. I have great vision but this was like night and day to actually see what you are doing. The carpet downstairs is thicker and I could easily switch from low, high and hardwood. It took a second to get used to the swivel steering but it is a nice feature. Emptying the bin is sanitary now. It drops from the bottom hands free or can be unclogged from the top. We no longer need new carpet- this was the answer. Cons: It does not work easily on stairs! It's very awkward. The lift away isn't sturdy on its own( it does come with a holder for it) and the hose is too short/ tight. I'll have to find a handheld vacuum as well or possibly exchange it. Another version came with a stair attachment. While using the lift away without the wand, the weight of the head of the vacuum isn't sufficient and the head sometimes flips up. It doesn't seem to have as strong of suction without the canister attached. My selling points were that it was more affordable than other brands but it is not cheap quality- it is heavy duty and well made. It comes with a hardwood genie. It can fit under my Cali king bed and shine light to see (l considered the Shark Rocket upright since a family member loves it but the Rotator has the complete seal and hepa filter and I didn't like how the Rocket is stored) It is the best looking vacuum in both of our opinions. I also really like the controls on the handle and the 30 ft cord. ( Our old vac doesn't quite make it to the last stair) It was simple to put together. I love love love how this has a hepa filter AND it's washable AND it has complete seal technology- it picks up and holds the tiniest particles. The suction on this thing is incredible on straight carpet floors. Walmart price matched when I found it cheaper online somewhere else. Overall I believe it is a worthy investment and I would recommend it even though it has a few things I would change.
In search of the perfect vacuum
I absolutely love my Shark lift away rotator vacuum! It does not lose suction, just as advertised. The lift away feature with the caddy allows me to use it as a canister vacuum! I don't believe my house has ever been cleaner in such a short time! The attachments especially the dust brush are of better quality than the ones that came with my Kenmore elite canister vacuum! I have owned Kenmore canister vacuums since the 80's and I always thought the suction was better than other brands but, after experiencing the Shark I was amazed at the suction power it has! I am sold on Shark! I have found the perfect vacuum!!!
impressed
I bought this after researching and needing a new vacuum. This vacuum is a little heavy I think. The suction is awesome. It comes with the caddy, 11 inch wand, small brush, upholstery wand(which is just a flat head with 2 strips of material on each side like a lint brush), and Hardwood floor genie. This does not come with the small rotating pet brush. At first I was upset with this but then I just lifted the sweeper head up to the couch and realized that this worked probably better but I don't have carpeted stairs. The cord is 30 ft which is great, but wish it automatically winded up. The sweeper comes apart easy and doesn't feel cheaply made. the hose was suppose to be softer and made to stretch easy but I don't think it's that great b/c it recoils fast. I've never had a canister vacuum, but when you put it on the caddy I think it gets in the way bc of the hose recoil. I liked the canister on the vac head better and just took it off when I have to vacuum under things. The lights are amazing. The vac head is super bright and when you just use the wand the other light on the handle is very bright and lights up the surface well in the dark. The hardwood floor genie is great. no loss in suction there. This works better than the sweeper head does on bare floor setting. This sweeper head is like it's self propelled. Not sure if I like this yet b/c it takes off on it's own. I only gave this 4 stars b/c of the price $298.00, but walmart was the cheapest at the time. IF you don't want the hardwood floor genie then you can order off shark site and get a free steam mop and crevice tools free for approx. $250.
Shark Vacuum
I am very pleased so far with my new vacuum. It is everything the web page said it would be. It arrived quickly to my home although I thought I was going to pick it up at my local store (?). I was not charged for shipping which I appreciated. The vacuum was intact and easy to put together. I feel the suction is good and of course, seeing the amount of dirt it pulled out of my carpet is impressive vs. a bag. It certainly is versatile with the lift away, hand accessories and the upright. The only thing I have found that is different from a fixed upright, is the fact that the swivel power floor feature gives me a work out. It's very easy to push but getting control of all that power will take some time to get use too. I also wish that there was a way to adjust the suction to vacuum or use hand tools to vacuum throw rugs without sucking them up.
Great on rugs, just OK on hardwood
I've had the original Shark Navigator Lift-Away vacuum for about 5 years - I loved it, but it could have been better. This vacuum has all the extras I wished the old one did - headlights, a longer cord, multiple carpet settings, easier to use. This vacuum is GREAT on rugs and carpet, it even works great when you detach the hose and use the attachments. The suction is amazing, even better than the older model. But for some reason it doesn't pick up well on my wood floors. Half the time, I find myself having to go over and over the same crumbs and dirt before the vacuum will pick them up. Maybe the older vacuum did the same thing and I couldn't tell because it had no headlights...the lights on this vacuum are incredibly bright - you can see every little speck of dust on the floor. All in all, it's a really good vacuum.
Great machine
My son bought this for me because my current vacuum, while great 20 years ago, was just not doing well any more. With 7 dogs and 1 cat the hair and dust is just horrendous in this house. The Shark is the answer to my prayers. I can get under every piece of furniture in my house now and can even vacuum the drapes and walls. It works as well on hard flooring as it does on carpet. I'll never go back to the old bag type uprights and I'm sure that this vacuum cleaner will last me for many years to come.
The best I've ever owned.
This vacuum is wonderful. The first time we used it brought up an amazing amount of dirt and dust even though we vacuumed regularly with our Kirby. It pulls itself along making it easy to get the job done quickly and easily. The design of operation was very well thought out.
Disappointed
Already have the NV500 and decided to get the upgrade for my 2nd floor as have carpet and wanted the edging function. Taken it back as it blows out bits of fluff, is more difficult to maneuver, seems top heavy and swings about on it's own, doesn't pick up as well, and the attachments are cheap bits of plastic. The crevice tool is shorter, the pet brush does not rotate (with the 500 I use it on my stairs) and the caddy is awful. I did like some features better like the 3 controls on the handle and the lift away for bare floors you don't need a 3-step attachment. On the 500 the suction is not good enough for bare floors when you just turn off the brush roller. Also on this model the front light is stronger, it's a pound or so lighter and I am right handed so like the cord on the left side where it's also higher up on the canister than the 500. There are a lot of improvements needed on this model as above, but it should have a retractable cord above all. Will be watching out for Shark to take the next step.
Amazed with how much this picks up!
I've always felt we did a pretty good job vacuuming the house. I used this vacuum and picked up so much pet hair and dirt I was really surprised. In just one fourth of the living room I filled a whole canister with dirt and pet hair, Usually I was able to finish the entire living room emptying the canister only once. I've also replaced the shop vac we used for the kitchen floor with this vac. So now we use only one vac for the entire house. Great.
