Good tires but extremely noisy!!!

I bought these for my 2010 Honda Odyssey minivan and absolutely hate them!!! Got them around Thanksgiving and noticed that they were very loud and my MPG was not as high as with my previous tires. I tried to have them exchanged at the place I purchased them, but they would not honor the guarantee. Now that it is summer, and it's much hotter, the tires are even louder! If I had a disposable income I would change these out, but given the price of the tires, that is not possible. While the tread is great for all conditions, please note that you will hear an increase in road noise.

Hands down, Michelin, the best tires at the best price

I bought four tires and had them installed on 11/23/2020. You may wonder, how can you rate them so high after just one day? Glad you asked, for the last 40 years or so, being in the transportation industry, driving passenger cars, luxury buses, tanker trucks (18 wheelers) etc… nothing compares to Michelin tires. They are the best. I have five passenger cars that have been driven 200k plus miles each. When I try other brands I’m always sorry. After you put 50k or 60k miles on a tire, that’s when it’s easy to feel the Michelin difference. They are just as smooth as when you first put them on. Of course you have people complaining about them being bumpy, however that is not the fault of the tire. Let me explain; when I installed new Michelins on the front wheel drive 2007 Chevy Impala, with 176k miles, it was very important to install new struts and shocks first. You may not know that it takes less than 5k miles to destroy a set of brand new tires (make them bumpy) installed on a vehicle with worn out struts and shocks. Along the same lines, make sure to do a wheel alignment. For best results, do the work in the following order: 1. New shocks 2. New Michelins 3. Wheel alignment Next, have you ever thought of why all these tire places want you to rotate the tires? Answer: to sell more tires. It is true (especially on front wheel drive cars) that, when rotated, the tires wear more even. What they will not tell you is this: yes, they wear more even, EVEN FASTER. I have driven Michelin Defenders mounted on the back of a front wheel drive car, for 92k miles, no rotating allowed. Yes, the front tires wore out in 52k miles due to a bad wheel alignment that had nothing to do with the tires. All I had to do was to buy two, not four, new tires for the front and fix the wheel alignment. At 52k miles, the tires on the back hardly looked used and they lasted another 40k miles. If I had them rotated, I would destroy all my tires evenly, even faster. If you are interested in an ultra-smooth ride and spending the least amount of money, buy Michelin tires and carefully read and follow the instructions above. david

Great set of tires.

Replaced the now-discontinued Dunlop Champiro tires I had previously with 28,000 miles on them. The initial 10,000 miles sound like all-terrain tires as they are rated at 80,000 miles. Currently have 19,000 miles on them and they are holding up well. Even drove over a nail that hold up until I noticed it on the sidewall. That's how tough is it when driving 70 mph on the highway. Replaced the affected tire with the same brand as the other three.

loudest tires I have ever purchaced

I purchased set of 4 Defender T+H for my 2014 Subaru Forester in May 2018. The traction in snow was good this past winter. BUT, they are the Loudest tires I have ever used. I carpool with 3 other people and they all say they think the tires are very noisy. The noise is loud, then very loud as speed increases, especially when going over 35mph. They seem to be getting louder as I put more miles on the car. I only have 7000 miles on them. I hope the store that installed them will give me some credit towards installing new, quieter tires. I keep detailed mileage records. These Defender T&H tires are getting 7% worse mileage (comparing same month to same month) than the OEM Bridgestone tires that came when my Forester was new.

Best winter tires ever!

I bought brand new winter tires in December. This was the first time I had ever purchased winter tires, but after ten years of driving, I understood it was time to lower the risks of accidents and thought I'd invest in new tires now so that I can save in the long run. Plus, I wasn't really saving when wearing out my all-season every year, so it made more sense to me (finally) to alternate between the two types of tires. The drive in the winter was completely different after installing my winter tires. I can feel the way the tires hugged the snow and gently stopped when I applied the breaks! This was especially important for me since I drive often between Toronto and Montreal where road conditions can be unpredictable in the winter time. I love my Michelin tires!

Best Tires EVER!

I bought Michelin Defenders almost 5 years ago. Just bought my 2nd set today. My first ones took me 90k miles. No question they are worth the money. I wish I had bought them years ago. They would have saved me so much money in the end. They last and they are a smooth ride. I plan to keep my car another 5 years so these are perfect and will carry me to retirement. Thank you Michelin for making a GREAT tire!!!

FINE EXCEPT FOR FUEL MILEAGE

Retired engineer-pilot, very observant of aircraft / vehicle performance. These replaced OEM tires on a Camry hybrid. PRO: Very quiet and smooth, fine ride and handling, and (based on 1 encounter) sure-footed in heavy rain. CON: High rolling resistance. Fuel mileage is down more than 5mpg.

Great Tire

Going to get my second set of Defenders TH today. Loved the first set that have about 75K miles on them. Winter is coming and would rather change tires early since I ski and drive on snowy roads. These performed well and I am very satisfied with the tread life.

Would definitely recommend Michelin tires.

I have also had Michelin X-ICE tires and based on their performance and ratings of Defender T + H, I wanted to try this tire. I have had them just over a month but I am happy with their performance (quiet, nice ride). I am expecting they will be the best of four types of all season tires I have used in the last 12 years.

Disappointing wear

We've had these for 20,000 miles, and the loss of tread is surprising, sort of amazing. No longer suitable for next winter when it snows 2 inches. Otherwise, a good all-round tire. Great gas mileage, good handling, not too noisy, stops well. Would like the same tire, but getting 40,000 miles out of them for all four seasons.
