Like others have said, these can be hit or miss out of the box. We purchased two of these units and even though both boxes looked okay, the one shelf was pretty mangled when we opened the box. There is no foam, no bubble wrap, nothing to protect anything from abuse. Our nearest Sam's is a 45 min drive so having to return the shelf was a hassle that a little foam could have prevented. Assembly is easy enough that one person can almost manage it themselves. Plan on using zip ties to hold the metal racks down, they slide off easily.

I bought two sets of these for my garage. The base has tabs to bolt them to the floor, and the verticals have the rail notches on both sides for the shelves allowing you to leave out the bottom shelf to access the floor space. (I put my rolling toolboxes in there), and using the extra shelf rails to attach in between the units. Effectively having the storage of 3 units end to end, although you need 18 feet of space to place them all together like that.

The first box I received was damaged and one of the structural supports was bent. I brought it back for a replacement. The second box had no damage so I figured I’d be good to go. However when I assembled the shelf I noticed one of the cross beam welds was broken and was unsupported. Rather than return it again I zapped it with a MIG welder. Maybe I’m just unlucky but my experience with this shielding is not good.

Just for reference to anyone wondering, each horizontal shelf support bar at both ends has the slot pegs as well as a hole that you can insert a 3/16" (if I remember correctly) pop-rivet and fender washer to LOCK each shelf level in place on all four corner posts to make absolutely sure that you have a completely SOLID shelving UNIT that is not going to flex or bend on you when loaded or moved!!! Handy if you had to temporarily lift the whole unit with a fork lift by putting forks under and easily moving from one location to another.

We purchased 2 at $150 pre Covid. Wanted 4 more, couldn't get. A friend in FL said they were in stock at his SC, so I checked every day, but PA stores had ZERO for pick up or shipping. We were going to drive from PA to OH where they were in stock for $180, but with gas prices doubled, and the time, we almost bought from another membership club, where they're $230. I'm so glad we waited because they finally became available... and for FREE shipping for PLUS! I love SC! We immediately ordered 4. Upon opening, I was disappointed at the change, although slight, I was satisfied with the previous design. My 1st box lacked an instruction sheet, so I went to You Tube and found a video. The upgrade to the shelves over the last ones is actually good. No tools needed except for a mallet, and only for some horizontals. The shelf supports are now vertical rectangular tubes, and there are 4 per shelf. They go in by matching holes in the shelf support beam with a hole in the horizontal front and back piece. Some were tricky to get in because a couple of shelf front or back pieces seemed a bit out of plumb. It took twisting the piece a bit or flipping the shelf support beam to get the holes to line up perfectly for the pin to go straight through. Nothing I couldn't handle. These shelves are holding totes of books, cast iron pans, and crocks, in addition to many other items. They work perfectly for my Sterilite Modular Stackers totes. They're very strong. We have them in a storage unit, we have no children near them that could climb on them, nor do we have earthquake issues, so they're pushed against a wall without being secured to the wall or floor. Also, if I were going to secure them, I'd use more than the 2 supplied screws. For those who are unhappy with this item, I don't get why. It's the best shelf for the best price out there. Maybe you could go to the other club and pay $50 more, or to the orange or blue big box stores where they are more than double the price. Getting a damaged box or a damaged component is frustrating, but rating the shelf one star when you didn't use it isn't really a reflection on the shelf. Although, it might encourage someone to open the box and check for bent or missing pieces before leaving the store.
