When our soils dry out they become naturally water repellent due to the peat moss and organic materials that are an important part of the soil mixture.<br /><br />If soil/peat moss is dry upon opening the bag, we suggest you do the following: empty what is needed into a plastic bucket or tub and slowly stir in a small amount of water. Wearing garden gloves or using a garden tool, work the soil and water together thoroughly until moistened. Do not add too much water at once or the mix will be too wet. The resultant soil should be damp like a squeezed out sponge.
