Frankly, I can't visualize how they can slice modern "regular" bacon as thin as they do. In my case I tried to find an option that wasn't crazy expensive, none are inexpensive, and that is good quality. Hormel Black Label, Thick Cut from Sam's is the closest I've come. Three pounds is a lot for a family of two. I usually cook it all on my outdoor griddle, then vacuum seal and freeze it. That system has worked well for us for years.
