These were on sale so I bought a few boxes, and quite honestly the first box was disappointing.
Like many of the reviews you'll find on here, they were dry, fishy, fell apart and generally lacked flavor.
So this is a cooking sauce I concocted that turned these into five-star salmon burgers for us (Hope this helps and you can apply your own creative twists on it)...
Please understand measurements are approximate, I cook more by feel than by recipe. Adjust as your inner sous chef directs you…
Also, these have been prepared on a grill only. I have no idea how it would turn out in other situations. You should prepare this at least an hour before you plan on grilling to give the flavors a chance to meld.
Ingredients for the sauce and approximate amounts:
Add the following to a ninja blender /food processor. Or whatever you have that will turn this stuff into a sauce.
Dill leaves no stems. 1 tsp
1 tbsp real lemon juice or the equivalent
2 tbsp of your favorite mayonnaise
One heaping teaspoon of minced garlic and juice
The equivalent of 1 tbsp of fresh onion. I used red, I would add more if you're using yellow or Vidalia. You don't have to chop it much. Let the blender do the work.
1 tsp white sugar
Two heaping tablespoons of crumbled feta cheese
Run the blender to pulverize the heck out of everything you put in there until it's the consistency of a thick ranch dressing…
Then add one more teaspoon of fresh dill leaves and pulse it just enough to distribute them.
Grill the oiled burgers for your prescribed time (see suggestions below) and immediately after flipping them, hit them with little more oil and then use a basting brush to apply your sauce.
Just before you take them off, lay a slice of a low salt, easy melt cheese (we used Muenster but havarti is good too).
Anyway, this worked wonders for us and will be buying these forever. I wish more people would put their suggestions in the comments or reviews to help us enjoy our economical food choices even better.
Everything except for the fresh dill which is so easy to grow is available at Sam's club most under the members Mark brand.
Other suggestions are:
Only cook from Frozen
Make sure you preheat the grill thoroughly and go slightly higher than medium high heat. Think MHH.
Check the temperature of the patties before you toss them on the grill. If less than 10°. Add time.
Split your grilling time 60/40… 60% on the first burn 40% on the flip so they firm up and don't crumble as easily when you're flipping them.
Liberally add olive oil spray on the side you're going to put on the grill. And as soon as you toss them add more spray to the cooked side.
If you're using dried, store-bought Dill, double it.
Anyway, after doing a lot of research, all of the above things address all of the complaints about the burgers. Glad I could save face on my purchases.
Really not that hard, hope you enjoy.
