Bread is normally stale on the day of purchase!

This has been my favorite bread for many years and the 2-pack at Sam's has been very economical for us. The problem we have is that the bread is quite stale. This used to be a rare occasion but has slowly become the norm. My wife picked up a pair of loafs yesterday. They are marked "BEST BY OCT 27" so you would believe them to be very fresh but they are not. Each slice feels dry to the touch.
