Company History

Corona beer’s international expansion began in the South and Southwestern regions of the United States — with American tourists returning home from Mexico, bringing with them a taste for the beer they had enjoyed on the sunny beaches of Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta. Corona Extra was introduced to the U.S. in 1979, and the Corona brand quickly became synonymous with the American beach-and-barbecue lifestyle. Since then, Corona has added a few more drinks to kick back with, providing additional choices for everyone who already is living La Vida Más Fina. But the story doesn't end here; the Corona brand is just getting started.

Sustainability

The beach has always been there for us. That’s why Corona has partnered with Oceanic Global to help Protect Our Beaches nationwide. Our Mission:100 Beaches Cleaned; 1 Million Pounds of Plastic Removed By 2025. Together with Oceanic Global, we’re not only helping to remove existing plastic pollution off of beaches around the U.S., but we’re also playing our part to reduce the growing demand for new plastics, so they don’t wind up on beaches nationwide in the future.

80% of plastic comes from land-based sources. To address this, we’ve been spearheading high impact cleanups of America’s most polluted beaches. Since 2020, we’ve also been hosting community cleanup events at beaches around the country so that we can all help out together. But that’s not all. We’ve been taking an even closer look at our business practices and working to meet the criteria outlined in Oceanic Global’s Blue Standard to reduce unnecessary plastics and replace them with sustainable alternatives.
