Brewing Process

From the largest brewhouses to the smallest brewpub, brewing beer follows the same key steps to transform a handful of ingredients into fresh beer.

  • Grain Milling: The grains that make up the beer are milled
  • Mashing: The cereal's nutrients are extracted and become available for fermentation, producing the wort
  • Wort Filtration: The brewed grains are separated from the wort
  • Boiling: Wort is boiled hop is added
  • Decanting: Wort cooling; the wort is chilled to fermentation temperature yeast is added
  • Fermentation: The yeast turns the wort into beer, which is now alcoholic
  • Maturation: The beer goes through a maturation process that refines and balances its flavor
  • Beer Filtration: The beer is filtered and becomes clear and bright
  • Packaging: The beer is conditioned in cans, bottles or kegs

Tasting Beer

  • Perfect Pour: Whether you are pouring beer from a can, bottle, growler or draft system; tilt the glass 45 degrees and pour down the side of the glass until it’s half full, then tilt it to the upright position and finish pouring the beer down the middle of the glass.
  • See: Raise the glass against a light source and evaluate the appearance. Comment on the clarity of the beer, it’s color and foam quality.
  • Smell: Swirl the glass to stimulate the aromatics in the beer, bring it close to your nose and inhale. Comment on hop and malt aroma, yeast signature, and any other aromatic qualities of the beer.
  • Taste: Swirl the glass again and take a sip. Spread the beer everywhere in your mouth to reach all your taste buds. Evaluate the acidity, sweetness and bitterness. Other perceptions of saltiness and umami are possible. As beer warms up taste will combine with your olfactory receptors in the back of your nose.
  • Mouthfeel: Swallow the beer and take notes of the mouthfeel from the front of your mouth to the back of your throat. Is it drying, round, chewy, creamy, warming? How about the carbonation?

If you like light lagers, this is a good one! I love that each bottle has only 85 calories and is organic. The Ultra Pure Gold is hard to find - usually stores carry only the Ultra which has 95 calories. It's very satisfying on a hot day!

Refreshing domestic beer without the bloat

crisp and refreshing...great taste. If you have an occasional craving for beer this is an excellent choice. It is also very manageable if you do not want to be bloated and bogged down.
