This cooler really has everything I was looking for in a performance cooler.  The insulation is great.  It has secure closing tabs.  It has a drain plug.  It has a bottle opener.  It is a little on the heavy side but all of the good in this cooler cannot happen without some weight.  Having said that, this cooler is much lighter than many of its competitors.  Some folks dig on coolers not keeping cool as long as advertised.  It is important to realize that if you put ice/drinks/food in a warm cooler you are bound to have some initial melting just to bring the temperature down.  Add some ice prior to using the cooler and it will last really well.  No question it's a great deal for what you get.

Awesome and priced right

I generally throw a cold pack in the bottom, a dozen fizzy waters and a dozen beers in here, top it off with ice. Most ice is still frozen the next morning even with people going in all the time. I probably way overbought for my use case and could have gotten a old thin-walled design. I haven't gotten a chance to road trip with it yet but it's extremely confidence inspiring.

Overkill for poker night

Light weight with solid and what appears to be quality build features.  1st use had cold items stay cold well over night. Removed beverages and left half bag of ice again over night. Next morning, ice was still in the bag though some of course melted. But pleased with performance of this cooler.

Good performance and features

The trail mate cooler is the perfect size for the backseat of your car. Having the ability to keep ice upwards of 4-6 days is a great feature when traveling. The drain plug, which many coolers don’t have anymore in this size, allows you to urge water and add needed ice. 
For two people traveling we find it the perfect size for our needs. Also the weight of the cooler was a big factor in this purchase

As a welder, I have to seek out well built tools that will hold up & that are American Made, including the coolers that hold my drinks & food for the work day, the TrailMate 25qt does just that with ease, it holds everything I need keeps everything in it extremely cold & oh yeah did I mention MADE IN THE USA! Awesome!

Great cooler so far.  Taken on first road trip with great ice retention and perfect size for the weekend.  Ice held for three days with opening multiple times a day.

I had a substantially more expensive cooler (starts with a D) that leaked from the drain plug, no matter how much it was tightened.  

This cooler was appealing for it's much more reasonable price point, and I was very pleased to see that it is made in the USA.  The cost differential is predictably evident in the details, specifically the latches.  They seat in pockets on the outer lip of what I believe is the liner, whose edge is poorly finished and unpleasant to touch.  

I've developed a strategy for opening the latches with less difficulty, but they are not nice to use, and given that they are primary interaction points for the cooler, I wish they had been more considered.

The drain plug looks like it will be a much more functional and reliable example, although the wire tether seems like kind of an afterthought.

Frankly, I would have preferred to see lower complexity in the shell molds to shift resources to the latches specifically - I have never used a cooler-lid cupholder and doubt I ever will, especially since 2 of those molded into the lid of this one appear to be sized for coffee cans, and all of them are a little shallow.

All that said, I have to say that overall, I am pleased with the purchase - I applaud Igloo for producing this cooler domestically and have little doubt about it's performance or longevity.

Solid B+ or a Shaky A-

Locking handles are retained by thin plastic. Holds ice pretty decent but when putting the handles in and out of the lock position it is retained by thin plastic and feels extremely flimsy which I am sure will end up breaking/cracking before this cooler can even reach one moth old. After one use the plastic is already showing signs of stress.

After 1 yr my rubber latches broke. Igloo does not even sell replacement latches. I have 6 igloo coolers and will not buy another one.
