Pro Tips & Tricks: How to Make Your Flowers Last Longer

Before your flowers ship, they are prepared for their journey with proper hydration methods. If your flowers appear sleepy and thirsty after their journey, this is absolutely normal! Just follow these simple steps for proper rehydration and watch them bloom to their fullest potential.

  1. Unpack your flowers immediately upon arrival.
  2. Fill a clean container/vase with fresh, cool water.
  3. Using sharp scissors or garden shears, make a 45-degree angle cut at least 1-2 inches off the end of the stems.
  4. Place the flowers in the prepared container or vase. Arrange as desired.
  5. Allow your flowers to properly hydrate for 1-2 hours.
  6. Remove any foliage that falls below the waterline of your container. Leaves will rot and cause bacteria to form and shorten the flower's life.
  7. Re-cut the stems and refresh the flower food and water every two days.
  8. Do not place flowers in direct sunlight or near fruits, heat and drafts.
  9. Remove wilting flowers at any time to prevent bacterial growth.

Unbelievably Amazing

I was the florist for my daughter's wedding and I bought all the flowers at Sam's. The ONLY criticism I have about these has to do with UPS and NOT the vendor, or Sam's. UPS said they would deliver at 5pm, so I kept our gate closed. UPS came at 10am and then left the flowers on the ground outside our gate. NOT HAPPY WITH UPS! As for the flowers, they were absolutely amazing. Every single head was gorgeous and filled out beautifully by the time of the wedding (they were shipped 2 days before the date). Each had its own water supply attached and the flower heads were protected with bouqet wrap. I unpacked the flowers one at a time, removed their water supply, trimmed the stems at a sharp angle and dunked them in alum crystals before putting them in water and they were absolutely GORGEOUS by the time I began the bouquets the next day. I would buy these again without any hesitation. Do not let professional florists scare you off hydrangeas from Sam's!
