Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse have a very interesting history behind his success. "Born" on November 18, 1928, Mickey is one of the most recognizable images in the world, even beating out Santa Claus! When he was released to the world, with two animation shorts, Mickey drew little to no attention. But then came "Steamboat Willie," the first animation to feature synchronized music and sound effects. By the end of Mickey's first year in 1928, the mouse was a national fad. Soon after, Walt Disney quickly started up a line of Mickey merchandise, and withing two years of that, The Mickey Mouse Club, a fan club for children, was up and running. And, here's one more for the history books: Mickey Mouse was almost named Mortiner! But, they kept that name for Minnie Mouse's uncle!
