About this item

Product details

Famous for its rich amber color and medium-bodied flavor, with roasted caramel malt for a subtle sweetness and a combination of cluster and cascade hops, this true original delivers a well-balanced taste with very distinct character. Born from a historic recipe that was resurrected in 1987, Yuengling Traditional Lager is a true American classic.

Brewing Process

1. All brews start in the cereal cooker where water, corn grits, and malted barely are added and cooked for 2 hours at 210° F.

2. More water and malted barley are added in the mash tun. Here the starches converted into sugars that can be fermented. Light beers are cooked longer and at lower temperatures to reduces sugar content.

3. At this point the sugar-rich liquid, known as wort, is moved to the Lauter Tun. Here the grain and liquid separate through the sieve-like base of the vessel.

4. Once the sweet wort is transferred to the brew kettle, the hops are added which gives the brew flavor, aroma, and bitterness.

5. The Wort is cooled and moved to the Fermenting Cellars where yeast is added or “pitched”. The yeast converts sugars from the malt into alcohol and carbon dioxide.

6. After active fermentation, the brew is cooled and moved to the Aging Tank for about 20 days. At this stage, the yeast settles, and the beer’s flavor becomes smoother.

7. The beer is then filtered to purge the remaining yeast and stabilize the flavor. Carbon dioxide is adjusted to ensure superior flavor. The beer is then moved to the finishing tanks.

8. Once the brew is finished it is pumped to the can line, bottle line, or kegged for our beer loving fans.

Company

All Yuengling products are produced at three company-owned breweries. There are two in Pottsville PA and one in Tampa FL. Fans are invited to visit our Historic Pottsville Brewery for a tour. Our Tampa campus will be open in 2022. David G. Yuengling came from Aldingen, Germany. Aldingen is a town in Wuerttemberg in the southwestern part of the country. D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc. is owned and operated by Richard (Dick) Yuengling, Jr. This fifth generation owner is in the Pottsville facilities daily. Dick’s passion is in the plant: the brew house, on the bottling line and at the truck docks. However, he can be found in the lab for his morning coffee followed by daily visits to each department. Dick’s daughters and sixth generation, Wendy Yuengling, Jennifer Yuengling, Debbie Yuengling Ferhat, and Sheryl Yuengling are all members of the Yuengling staff. Wendy and Debbie work in administration and Jennifer and Sheryl are in production and shipping.

Sustainability

America’s Oldest Brewery is giving back to America by partnering with Keep America Beautiful. Together, we build awareness, organize cleanup events, and provide financial support to improve sustainability behaviors in Pennsylvania, Texas, Florida, and across the country. Lagers for Heros The military and first responders have always been a community with which Yuengling has a connection and has supported on national and local levels for many years. Our heroes’ programs have allowed America’s Oldest Brewery to enhance that connection and make a positive impact on the service community from the time of service through separation. We help support Team RWB, TAPS, and Operation Gratitude.
