Eric Carle was born in Syracuse, New York and lived with his family there until moving to Germany when he was just six years old. He returned to the United States and settled in New York City where he had just $40 to his name! Eric Carle illustrated more than seventy books with some becoming all-time children's best sellers! More than 170 million copies of Eric Carle's books have been sold worldwide, including his all-time best seller 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' which was written in 1969.
