Robert Mondavi Private Selection Rye Barrel Aged Red Blend is the first of its kind Red Blend aged in Rye barrels. It reflects the expressive character of this truly original approach to aging. Robert Mondavi coastal vineyards deliver lush, dark fruit flavors of plum, black cherry and blackberry to the wine. A select portion of the blend is then aged in Rye Whiskey barrels, which add complex nuances of toasted oak and rye spice for a smooth, rich finish. This red wine pairs well with your favorite comfort food or charcuterie board. The growing season saw significant rainfall, ending a five-year drought, refilling the reservoirs, and replenishing the soils. Harvest began early and at a normal pace, then progressed rapidly during a heat wave in late August and early September. Temperatures cooled in mid-September, slowing harvest and allowing grapes to ripen gradually and color up nicely. The result is red wines with great color, extraction, and flavor. The grapes for our Rye Barrel-Aged Red Blend were sourced from prime vineyards throughout Monterey County in California’s Central Coast growing region. Monterey County vineyards enjoy a long, relatively cool growing season, with warm days and cool nights that provide ideal ripening conditions for grapes to develop complex flavors and deep, concentrated color. The grapes were harvested at night and in the early morning to preserve ideal acidity and sugar levels. Harvest ran from September through October. We start our unique process with Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc grapes carefully picked at the peak of ripeness from Monterey County vineyards. Then, we ferment the juice in stainless steel. The wine is then blended to deliver exceptional fruit flavors and complexity. Next, the blend is aged for an additional ten months in American oak rye whiskey barrels.

I discovered Robert Mondavi on our honeymoon in 1988 while on a wine tour in CA. It has been a fan favorite of family gatherings since that time.  I love the Red Blend as just a great combo of grapes!

Robert Mondavi never disappoints!

I grabbed a bottle of this to try out and was pleasantly surprised. If you like a rye whiskey then you will like this cab.  It's sweet (not moscato sweet) and smooth.  I will definitely buy again.

Still delicious but would only be able to have one glass along with cheese to reset the palate. Color is dark ruby and I was getting a nice finish Everytime for some a wine that has been liquor barrel aged. Well executed

The taste is good, I was hoping for more of a smoky taste but I got strong fruity flavor and very subtle smoky. It did pair well with cheese and crackers. Overall it's good, close to a 5!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently tried the Robert Mondavi  Rye Barrrel-aged wine and it was delicious.  I had this wine with a pasta dish and a Italian antipasto on the side with bread. The flavors paired very well with everything I made and my family enjoyed this wine and looks forward to buying this for the upcoming holiday season. It was a mixed red blend, i found it not as dry as the other varieties in this collection. It was fruity and refreshing. This would pair well with red meat dishes as well.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was dry. Very dry. I did not enjoy this wine at all. It was not my style. My husband said it was ok, but he’s not having me rush out to buy it. It may be better if I was having a  red meat meal but I’m not sure.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wasn't sure what to expect as I have never tried a red blend but this was absolutely delicious!! I ate this with fish and it was so good, not to strong of a flavor, it was perfect. The aroma was wonderful and this might be my new favorite!

Surprised me!

Great red !!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really enjoyed the Rye Barrel-Aged Red Blend,  it’s a nice Ruby red color, I could definitely taste gingerbread and black cherry flavor.. I not a fan of black cherry, this tasted really good.  A fine choice to pair with grilled steak, and cheeses.

Smooth

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Robert Mondavi Rye Barrel Aged Red Blend had a grapey smell, so I was really excited upon first sniff, but the taste was my least favorite of the 3. It was just kind of blah apart from a tiny bit of sweetness on the tongue, but the roof of my mouth went the way of an Arizona wind: SO dry. Would NOT buy again.
