Bright and Sturdy Tulips for Your Garden

Tulips are a timeless addition to any garden, celebrated for their sturdy stems, vibrant colors, and ability to bloom for several springs in a row. With upward-facing blooms on stems of varying heights, tulips bring elegance and charm to outdoor spaces. Their foliage ranges from green to gray-green and includes variegated lance-shaped leaves, adding texture and interest to your garden.

Darwin Hybrid Tulips: Perfect for Cut Flowers

Among the 15 divisions of tulips, Darwin hybrid tulips stand out for their large, brilliantly colored blooms. These tulips are ideal for cut flowers, thanks to their strong stems and beautifully shaped blossoms. Whether planted in the garden or containers, Darwin hybrids are sure to make a striking impression.

Planting Tips for Healthy Growth

Plant tulip bulbs in the fall before the first frost hardens the soil. Dig a hole to the required depth, place the bulb pointed side up, cover with soil, and water thoroughly. For container planting, bury the bulb three times as deep as its width. In colder zones, protect containers by placing them near the foundation of a house or in an unheated garage or shed. Ensure the soil is loose, crumbly, and well-drained to prevent bulb rot.

Care and Propagation for Long-Lasting Blooms

After blooming, leave the bulbs in place to allow plants to clump or reseed naturally. Divide bulbs only when containers or planting spaces become overcrowded. Propagate in the fall by division after chilling bulbs for four weeks in a moist medium. Store bulbs in a dry, cool place at 40-50ºF to overwinter in non-hardy zones. For a vibrant garden display, plant tulips in sunny locations or combine multiple varieties in containers for a burst of spring color.
